Camano Island
Whidbey Island and Camano Island of Island County, Washington offer an easygoing
vacation just an hour from Seattle, located on the northwestern tip of
Washington State. The islands are nestled just miles from each other, between
the Cascade Mountains to the east, the Olympics to the west and just
south/southwest of Anacortes and the San Juans, where the waters of the Pacific
are ushered through the Straits of Juan De Fuca and into Puget Sound.
Located northwest of Seattle, a relaxing island vacation is
closer than you might think. With ferry and bridge connections close to the
Seattle metropolitan area, you can reach either island in under an hour.
Accessible and beautiful, getting to Whidbey and Camano Islands is a scenic part
of your vacation trip, however you get there. Nevertheless, both islands are
closer to Seattle than the San Juan Islands and require less ferry and drive
time in transit. Both islands are accessible easily by bridge. Whidbey is
accessible by two Washington State Ferry routes. Camano Island is accessed by
bridge, rather than ferry. Additional information can be found at the website
for Island Country Tourism,
www.WhidbeyCamanoIslands.com or calling
toll-free 888.747.7777. The Camano Island Chamber of Commerce

Coupeville
The following is provided by the Central Whidbey Island Chamber of Commerce.
Picturesque Coupeville, known for its numerous festivals and historic downtown
is located on the scenic waters of Penn Cove. Average rainfall on Central
Whidbey Island is significantly less than the Seattle area because of the `rain
shadow' effect of the Olympic Mountains. The pleasant temperatures enjoyed year
round make it a wonderful place to live or to visit. Coupeville is the Island
County Seat and home to the Island County Historical Society Museum. Founded in
1852, the 1,700 resident town features numerous art galleries, restaurants,
lodgings and a variety of shops, all locally owned. The Coupeville Wharf is the
oldest standing wharf in Puget Sound, located on the beautiful waters of Penn
Cove. Located in the heart of Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve,
Coupeville residents ensure the town maintains its historic character which
provides a glimpse into Nineteenth Century life. Established in l978, the
17,000-acre Reserve is highlighted by breathtaking views of Ebey’s Prairie,
Puget Sound and both the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges. It encompasses
three state parks and is laced with easy trails and clear vistas. Additional
information can be found by visiting their website at

Oak Harbor
The following is provided by the Greater Oak harbor Chamber of Commerce.
In 1850 the Irish began to settle into the Oak Harbor area with the Dutch
following in the 1890's. In 1941 the U.S. Navy began to establish its presence
near Oak Harbor. Since then the growth and changes of mission of the Naval Air
Station, along with the economic growth of the Northwest Washington, changed the
quiet country town of 600 into a beautiful waterfront community of over 20,000.
Oak Harbor's small town flavor continues to be displayed in the numerous annual
celebrations. The Irish paint the town green in March, and the Dutch fill the
town with tulips the last weekend of April during the annual Holland Happening
celebration. Patriotism soars and flags abound on the 4th of July celebrating
the strong alliance between the community and the Navy. Whidbey Island Race
Week, held each year in July, has been rated among the top 20 yachting regattas
in the world. When visiting Oak Harbor don't miss our old downtown, the original
commercial center of Oak Harbor, where historic turn-of-the century buildings,
parks, a full service marina, and beaches are enhanced by panoramic views of the
Cascade Range and the Olympic Mountains. Visit
www.oakharborchamber.org for additional information.
Olympic National Park
Olympic National Park
encompasses three distinctly different ecosystems—rugged glacier capped
mountains, over 60 miles of wild Pacific coast and magnificent stands of
old-growth and temperate rain forest. Olympic is also known for its biological
diversity. Isolated for eons by glacial ice, the waters of Puget Sound and the
Strait of Juan de Fuca, the Olympic Peninsula has developed its own distinct
array of plants and animals. Eight kinds of plants and five kinds of animals are
found on the peninsula and live nowhere else in the world. Click on

Seattle is anything but ordinary. It's a place where bike messengers share
elevators with world-renowned researchers. Where fishermen have lunch alongside
top surgeons. It's a city where the extraordinary is commonplace and commonplace
is anything but. And if you look closely, you just might discover that in
Seattle there are amazing things happening all around you. |

|
From a jet engine to an espresso machine to grunge rock, Seattle's
world-changing events have all had a distinct sound. But the symphony doesn't
end there. Your visit to Seattle may bring you the sound of an orca blowing as
it surfaces, the roar of the crowd at Safeco Field or the near silence of the
Olympic rainforest. Come to Seattle and hear for yourself.
