Chatham
Visitors to Chatham,
Virginia state such things as, "A remnant of the Old
South" and "It seems British-Colonial." Since its founding
in 1777, Chatham has experienced a remarkable stability and continuity of
population, buildings, and natural environment. Although the prosperous
1875-1925 era left a strong Victorian ambience, every architectural period
since colonial days is visible. Visit Chatham
and see Virginia as it once was.

| Lee Hall Mansion is the only large
antebellum plantation house remaining on the lower Virginia Peninsula.
Completed in 1859, Lee Hall Mansion was home to affluent planter Richard
Decauter Lee (of the York County Lee family), his wife Martha, and their
children. Only three years after the house's completion, the Lees fled
their home as the Peninsula became one of the first battlegrounds of the
Civil War.
Volunteers lead visitors through seven rooms,
beautifully decorated in the style of the mid-19th century. Tours
highlight plantation life, furnishings, architecture, Richard D. Lee and
his family, and the impact the Civil War had on local society. |

Trail around tranquil Lake Maury. Take a Museum backpack to explore the

| Virginia Living Museum - The
Commonwealth of Virginia is blessed with an “uncommon-wealth” of
natural wonders, among the most diverse in the country. At the Virginia
Living Museum, this natural heritage comes alive. The museum’s living
exhibits bring visitors in contact with more habitats, wildlife and plant
species than would be encountered in a lifetime of outdoor adventures in
Virginia. The exhibits literally go from the upland coves of the
Appalachian Mountains to the salty offshore waters of the Atlantic Ocean. In
1987, the museum became the first living museum east of the Mississippi,
combining the elements of a native wildlife park, science museum,
aquarium, botanical preserve and planetarium. Today, the Virginia Living
Museum continues to be a museum leader in its use of native wildlife to
present its message - stimulating knowledge, awareness and appreciation of
the living world. Visitors to the living museum encounter more habitats,
wildlife and plant species than would be encountered in a lifetime of
outdoor adventures in Virginia. The exhibits showcase all of the state’s
regions from the upland coves of the Appalachian Mountains to the salty
offshore waters of the Atlantic Ocean and feature more than 245 different
animal species. |

Shenandoah National Park lies in Virginia in the Blue Ridge
Mountains between Pennsylvania and Georgia. Skyline Drive, a 105-mile road
that winds along the crest of the mountains through the length of the
park, provides vistas of the spectacular landscape to east and west. The
park holds more than 500 miles of trails, including 101 miles of the
Appalachian Trail. Trails may follow a ridge crest, or they may lead to
high places with panoramic views or to waterfalls in deep canyons. Many
animals, including deer, black bears, and wild turkeys, flourish among the
rich growth of an oak-hickory forest. In season, bushes and wildflowers
bloom along the Drive and trails and fill the open spaces. Click on Shenandoah

Hi,
We just went to Williamsburg also. Stayed at the Primrose Cottage
B&B. It was very pleasant. Always meet interesting people
at these spots. Anyone who is German seems to know about this place
because the lady who owns it is German. Great food. She has a
website (http://www.primrose-cottage.com)
if anyone is interested. Lisa. (Thanks Lisa, Jim.)
