| Lee Hall Mansion is the only large
antebellum plantation house remaining on the lower Virginia Peninsula.
Completed in 1859, Lee Hall Mansion was home to affluent planter Richard
Decauter Lee (of the York County Lee family), his wife Martha, and their
children. Only three years after the house's completion, the Lees fled
their home as the Peninsula became one of the first battlegrounds of the
Civil War.
Volunteers lead visitors through seven rooms, beautifully decorated in the style of the mid-19th century. Tours highlight plantation life, furnishings, architecture, Richard D. Lee and his family, and the impact the Civil War had on local society. |

Shenandoah National Park lies in Virginia in the Blue Ridge Mountains between Pennsylvania and Georgia. Skyline Drive, a 105-mile road that winds along the crest of the mountains through the length of the park, provides vistas of the spectacular landscape to east and west. The park holds more than 500 miles of trails, including 101 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Trails may follow a ridge crest, or they may lead to high places with panoramic views or to waterfalls in deep canyons. Many animals, including deer, black bears, and wild turkeys, flourish among the rich growth of an oak-hickory forest.
