New York
Attractions
New York.
The Big Apple. As one of the world’s grandest city, where “bigger is better” is
the phrase that the locals live by,
New York
offers its tourists a host of breathtaking attractions. Although there are many
attractions to choose from, below is a list of but a few of the more popular
sites.
The Empire
StateBuilding
For decades, this skyscraper was the tallest building in the world and the pride
of
New York’s
citizens. Even though the EmpireState
Building
has been eclipsed by other skyscrapers around the globe in more recent times,
the top of the building still offers incredible views of the city. Photo
opportunities are best in the daytime in summer when there are few clouds.
Elevators go straight to the top floor so tourists need not worry about too much
of a walk.
Statue of Liberty
Dating back hundreds of years, the Statue of Liberty is a symbol of freedom and
hope. It was given to the Americans by the French as a sign of friendship and
has subsequently become one of the most iconic symbols in the world. Views from
the top of the Statue of Liberty across the bay are absolutely breathtaking and
any trip to New York
is not complete without at least one visit to the “summit”.
Grand Central Terminal
This is not just another station. Grand Central Station is crammed with shops,
restaurants and cafes and is also the main artery to almost anywhere in the
country. Although renovations have been continuing for almost a hundred years,
it seems as though there is always something new being built at Grand Central
Terminal.
RockerfellerCenter
This is a great place to take the family all year round. Best known for its ice
skating and giant Christmas tree in winter,
RockerfellerCenter is home to many
incredible shops and eateries.
Ellis IslandImmigrationMuseum
Most tourists who pass through New
York
will have at least one distant relative who came across by ship from the “Old
Country”. With a massive Irish,
Italian and Eastern European influence, New York’s
Ellis Island is a very moving experience. The
museum offers walking tours and exhibitions all year round.
AmericanMuseum
of Natural History
No holiday is complete without a good dose of the local culture and history. The AmericanMuseum of Natural History opened its
doors in 1869 and has since become one of the world’s premier institutions for
cultural learning. The Museum incorporates the Rose Center Planetarium and
cyclical exhibitions that are continually refreshed.
Central Park
Many visitors to New York
may think that the city offers nothing more than an endless urban jungle.
However, on closer inspection, an oasis appears in the center of New York in the form of Central Park.
On sunny days, Central Park is packed with
locals enjoying strolls, picnics and ball games. Even when the weather is far
from pleasant, the Park is nevertheless teeming with early morning joggers.
