For me, nothing says "North Carolina" any more than a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway. This has to be one of the most beautiful drives in the world. The parkway begins in Smoky Mountains National Park and winds its way northeast into Virginia. And, if you you would rather have a much slower view of this wonderful area of America, you can walk across the mountains on the Appalachian Trail. From Maine's Katahdin to Georgia's Springer Mountain, the Appalachian Trail winds through the scenic, wooded, pastoral, wild, and culturally resonant lands of the Appalachian Mountains. |

Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The national park, in the
states of North Carolina and Tennessee, encompasses 800 square miles of
which 95 percent are forested. World renowned for the diversity of its
plant and animal resources, the beauty of its ancient mountains, the
quality of its remnants of Southern Appalachian mountain culture, and the
depth and integrity of the wilderness sanctuary within its boundaries, it

The Nantahala National Forest lies in the mountains and valleys of western North Carolina between Waynesville and Murphy. Elevations in the Nantahala National Forest range from a high of 5,800 feet at Lone Bald in Jackson County, to a low of 1,200 feet in Cherokee County along the Tusquitee River below Appalachian Lake Dam.
The Appalachian Trail - From Maine's Katahdin to Georgia's Springer Mountain, the Appalachian Trail winds through the scenic, wooded, pastoral, wild, and culturally resonant lands of the Appalachian Mountains. The trail is a public footpath across 2,159 miles of Appalachian Mountain ridgelines. Roads that cross it for all but its northernmost 100 miles give ready access.

Located in Flat Rock about 3 miles south of Hendersonville on Little River Road. Open year round, Monday through Friday from 9-5, and Saturday and Sunday 10-5. The Dillsboro Steak and
Seafood House is one of those truly great finds in western North
Carolina. Located in Dillsboro, it is a friendly, family owned restaurant
