Bent Creek Lodge

Located in the mountains outside Asheville, and just off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, is Bent Creek Lodge, a relaxing retreat surrounded by woods and mountain veiws. There are 5 rooms with vaulted ceilings, ceiling fans, private baths, and air conditioning. Breakfast, included in your accommodations, might consist of some of Jodee's favorites such as smoked trout hash, banana stuffed French Toast, and Southwestern corn custard with salsa. Dinner is also available (reservations - $30 per person) with a three course meal that changes nightly and includes an appetizer, entree, and dessert. Some of their specialties are grilled shrimp with black eyed pea salad and basil oil, grilled quail with a fig and port sauce and pork tenderloin with tomatillo sauce and mashed sweet potatoes. Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site - Carl Sandburg, nationally renowned poet, a midwesterner most of his life, moved to North Carolina, which offered the peace and solitude required for his writing and offered over 30 acres of pasture-land that Mrs. Sandburg desired to raise her champion dairy goats! Today the site preserves the Sandburg legacy for future generations. The historic site consists of the circa 1838 antebellum house, the 1900's dairy goat barn complex and a representative goat herd, sheds, rolling pastures, mountainside woods, walking/hiking trails, two small lakes, ponds, flower and vegetable gardens, and an orchard. Located in Flat Rock about 3 miles south of Hendersonville on Little River Road. Open year round, Monday through Friday from 9-5, and Saturday and Sunday 10-5. The Claddagh Inn - This newly renovated Victorian Inn has been welcoming visitors to Hendersonville, North Carolina for over a hundred years. The Waverly Inn - I really enjoy this wonderful little inn in Hendersonville. It is located in the historic district within easy walking distance of a range of fine restaurants and interesting shops and make a perfect "home-away-from-home" when visiting this area. I found a warmth of atmosphere where I really did feel at home. The rooms are quite nice, some with four poster beds piled with comfortable pillows, and all with furnishings that give you a comfortable feel. After a day exploring the area you can return for a short read in one of the rocking chairs on the front porch and finish your day with a soak in a claw-footed tub. A full breakfast is served daily and a variety of complimentary refreshments is always available.
