National Aquarium
This is certainly one of
the most popular tourist attractions, and is located in
Baltimore’s
Inner
Harbor. The aquarium houses
exhibits such as small fish found in local waters, and moves on to much larger
fish such as rays, sharks, and more. Dolphin shows and the simulated
rainforest ecosystem make the aquarium a must see attraction for all those
visiting Baltimore.
Inner Harbor
Inner
Harbor,
home of the Baltimore Aquarium, has much to offer.
Inner Harbor is home to a number of famous museums, the
Maryland
Science Center,
live entertainment, great restaurants, local pubs, shopping and more.

Fort
McHenry
National Monument
and Historic Shrine
In 1812, after seeing the
American flag flying over Fort
McHenry, Francis Scott Key
was inspired to write the American national anthem, the Star Spangled Banner.
Visitors can visit this National Park to see military and historical artifacts
in the restored barracks. There is also a trail running along the water’s
edge, where visitors can enjoy the spectacular harbor views.
Washington
Monument
This monument is dedicated
to George Washington, the nation’s first president. 178 feet high, and 228
steep steps to the top will give visitors a bird’s-eye view of the city.
This marble column, with a statue of George Washington at the top, took nearly
15 years to build, with construction beginning in 1815. A small museum at
its base shows the development and architecture of the monument itself.
The
Maryland
Zoo in Baltimore
The zoo is located on 161
acres, with animals from all over the world, which can be seen in replicas of
their natural habitats. The Harold and Selma Taylor African Journey is
especially enjoyed, with a range of African animals, including lions, zebras,
giraffes, penguins, elephants, cheetahs, and more. The zoo, formerly known
as the Baltimore Zoo, is the third-oldest zoo in the country, having been
founded in 1878.
Maryland
Science
Center
The Maryland Science Center, although found in a
modern-looking building, houses both the old and the new. Visitors can
pursue a range of interesting exhibits from fossils and dinosaurs to outer
space. Apart from the many hands-on attractions, visitors can enjoy a
planetarium, a well-equipped observatory and an IMAX theater.
Baltimore
and Ohio Railroad
Museum
The museum houses an
extensive collection of historic locomotives located in a roundhouse, most of
which are in working order. Visitors can also see a miniature railway
system. The museum also encompasses the Mount Clare Station (1851) and the
Print Shop (1884).
U.S.S. Constellation
The U.S.S. Constellation
lies at anchor in Inner
Harbor. It was
commissioned in 1855, and has the fame of being the last all-sail ship that was
built by the U.S. Navy. Visitors are able to board the ship, where they
can learn its history, which includes how it tried to help disrupt the slave
trade.
