Daviess County Indiana
Located between the forks of the White River, the county is a mix of
prairie and timber, rolling hills, and rich bottomland. The magnificent farmland
produces bountiful crops of grain and supports a wide variety of livestock.
Daviess County is among the leaders in Indiana farming, ranking fourth in cash
receipts from agriculture. Nearly 530 old-order Amish families have made their
homes in Daviess County. The Amish are gifted craftsmen. Daviess County hosts a
large variety of Amish businesses including: quilt shops, buggy shops, cabinet
and furniture stores, restaurants and craft stores. The majority of Amish
businesses are open six days a week year round, but nowhere will you find an
Amish business open on Sundays. A newspaper advertisement in 1817 described
Daviess County as "the garden spot of Indiana." It still is. For more
information on this exciting Southern Indiana destination, contact: Daviess
County Chamber of Commerce, & Visitor's Bureau, One Train Depot Street,
Washington, IN 47501. Phone:(800) 449-5262 or (812) 254-5262 or
