Visitor Information on Oahu
Oahu, the Capital Island, may be most famous for the wonderful beach at Waikiki, a wonderful and seemingly endless white-sand ribbon that stretches from the ancient volcano to the harbor. This is also the location of the infamous Pearl Harbor and one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world, the Punchbowl. And, as this is the "gathering place" in Hawaiian, this is where you can find a lot of the history of the islands.

The spectacular seascape of Oahu has for a backdrop the beautiful green mountain slopes of the Koolaus, a jagged and steep mountain range. The scenery is awesome with everything from pristine beaches to rugged mountains. And, if it is the beach you like, you can enjoy everything from walking in the gentle waves of the south beaches to trying your luck with the 20-foot surfs of the north beach area. On the western coast of the island the beautiful scenery continues with the Waianae Range which rises over 4,000 feet. This is the second oldest island in the chain and like all of the islands it was formed by volcanoes. Three of the most famous to this island would be Diamond Head, Punchbowl, and Koko Head.

Any visit to the Hawaiian Islands should include a visit to Oahu as there is much here to see. However, there are also many people here seeing it so I like to make Oahu my starting place for visits to the other islands of Hawaii.
