For me, this is the best island in the chain. I love this place, especially the northern part of the island. Just about everyone has seen Kauai even if they have never been there as it has been used as the location for countless movies proving that this is the tropical Pacific - Hollywood says so!
Although this island was pretty much destroyed by Hurricane Iniki, to me it will always be the garden island of Hawaii. The north shore is home to the Hanalei Valley where you will find lush tropical agriculture, while on the south you will find the rugged Na Pali Coast with cliffs rising over 2,500 feet. To the south stretch the great beaches of Poipu and in the interior is Mount Waialeale which is reputed to be the wettest place on earth. And, although this area receives rain almost every day, just a bit to the west lies the Waimea Canyon, the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, that is about a barren as some of Arizona. So, as you can see, there are wonderfully diverse scenic opportunities for you to explore on Kauai. Be sure to visit this island and find your favorite getaway spot.
