Kailua Kona
Kona Village Resort - A common epithet leveled against destinations thought over-traveled, over-built, over-polished: every so often a place like Puerto Rico is sniffily derided as ‘the 51st State,’ consigned to the status of a Euro-Disney by hip travelers ever in search of the next hot thing.

How unfortunate for Hawai’i, then, to suffer the indignity of actually being the 50th American state. The bloom on this once-exotic rose may not have faded immediately upon its admission to the Union in 1959, but by the Nineties the luxury hotels found themselves scrambling to fill rooms even at deep discounts as Hawai’i was abandoned by the thrill-seekers and luxury junkies, left to the surfers and to a generation old enough to remember these islands’ mid-century heyday.

All of this is, of course, terribly unfair — but popular fashion is rarely based on exhaustive research, and thus ignores, from time to time, such glaring counterexamples as Kona Village. This is no theme park — here you’ll sleep in one of 125 hales, individual bungalows in a variety of South Pacific styles, thatched roofs and all. There’s no television, no telephone, and no need for air conditioning when you’ve got the ocean breeze and a ceiling fan. Layouts vary from one-room bungalows to duplexes sleeping five, and are scattered across the property, from deep in the palm stands to right on the beachfront. Kona Village is actually next door to the best Four Seasons Resort in Hawai’i. It is definitely comparable in terms of hospitality, but couldn't be further from it in terms of concept.

Kona Village offers an improbable degree of seclusion; the resort is bounded by a lava field, and there’s no need to venture off the grounds — this is one of the most beautiful spots on the Kona coast, and guests’ every need is anticipated by the hotel’s facilities, including restaurants, bars, pools, tennis courts, fitness center and children’s program. Hard to believe it’s Hawai’i — there are tourists at this moment crawling the Indonesian archipelago and some of the Indian Ocean’s minor islands in search of this kind of luxury, seclusion and peace.

Ka`upulehu-Kona
Four Seasons Resort Hualalai - With all the action happening on the beaches of Oahu and Maui and in the deep forests of Kauai, it’s easy to overlook the Big Island. And perverse as it may be to claim that any part of Hawaii qualifies as a well-kept secret, it’s nevertheless true that the island of Hawaii, for all its natural beauty, is under-traveled, relative to its neighbors.

Thus it’s the perfect site for a resort like the Four Seasons Hualalai. For as luxurious as it may be, this is anything but an ostentatious monument of a hotel. In keeping with the Kona Coast’s unpretentious and authentic character, this Four Seasons is a restrained and relatively sedate affair, composed of low-slung two-story villas and bungalows, scattered amidst winding pathways, gardens and pools, every room featuring its own private lanai and most within view of the ocean.

The interiors are subtly, tastefully Pacific in style, slightly retro and decidedly elegant. All modern luxuries are accounted for, including DVD players, interactive televisions and high-speed internet access, and the bathrooms are a sight to behold, with deep soaking tubs, and in most ground-floor rooms, outdoor showers in private walled gardens.

The bars and restaurants leave little to be desired, from Pahu i’a, centered around a giant aquarium, to the oceanside alfresco atmosphere of the Beach Tree and the open-air (and open-kitchen) Hualalai Grill. Service is nothing if not attentive, in typical Four Seasons style, and the facilities are beyond comprehensive, including a kids’ club, a spa and fitness center, a Jack Nicklaus signature golf course, and no fewer than five swimming pools and eight tennis courts.

Enjoy the diversity of Hawaii’s Big Island with family and friends at Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa. From stargazing atop majestic Mauna Kea to tours of nearby Kona Coffee farms to abundant ocean adventures launching from Keauhou Bay and an active volcano a day’s drive away, this island has it all.

Within the resort, the full-service Ho`ola Spa is a place of healing and relaxation. The 3,200-square foot spa facility was built with Hawaiian simplicity, yet has an air of distinct comfort. Indulge in Hawaiian lomi lomi massage or hot pohaku (stone) massage treatments. A hair and nail salon, soothing Vichy showers and oceanfront treatment patios with magnificent views provide just the pampering you deserve. Ho`ola is the Hawaiian word for healing and true to its name, Ho`ola Spa adds a nurturing touch to every visit.

For culinary adventures, a taste of the islands headlines every menu at our restaurants. Sample refreshing tropical beverages poolside at Manta Ray Bar & Grill. Big Island grown fruits, vegetables, and freshly caught fish highlight romantic dinners at Kai. Stunning ocean vistas from Crystal Blue Lounge are second only to the sight of graceful manta ray feeding in the surf below. Wake up the day with fresh 100% Kona coffee at Caffe Hahalua where Italian gelatos and smoothies cool the afternoons.

Plan on a day of fun-in-the-sun at our immense Manta Ray Super Pool & Slide. Children can frolic in interactive fountains or play in a sandy-bottomed pool area created just for them. A 200-foot waterslide, whirlpool spas, and waterfalls provide memorable amusement for all. Two tennis courts, a basketball court, and a sand volleyball court means the decision each day is to do as much, or as little as you like. The Keauhou Convention Center and Bayside Wedding Center help form the complete resort experience for whatever your island plans may entail.

Find all the comforts of home in our 521 spacious guest rooms and suites, each with a private Ianai. Beautiful island views and the celebrated bliss of our Sheraton Sweet Sleeper(SM) Bed helps everyone relax as plans are made for the next extraordinary day in paradise. Stay connected with friends, family, or the office through High Speed Internet Access, available resort wide.
