Return to Things to See and Do in Georgia

Crossroads

Stone Mountain Park has created an 1870s rural southern town as its first new family attraction in more than 25 years. Crossroadssm, a $30 million dollar themed entertainment bustling with activities to captivate all ages, opens Memorial Day Weekend 2002.

Georgia’s newest town is 130 years old and full of family fun. Crossroadssm, brings the 19th century to life through the stories of quirky town characters, including a singing sheriff, a peddler and the Rain Wizard. More>

Skilled craftspeople and artisans in period dress engage guests with demonstrations of glass blowing, candle dipping, peanut brittle pouring and confectionary production.

The blacksmith pounds household and decorative items, while Thompson’s Gristmill & Bakery draws visitors with smells of freshly ground flour and warm cinnamon bread. More>

The Tall Tales of the Southsm 4-D Theater brings unexpected sensations to creative 3-D imagery as a grandfather teaches his grandchildren the art of storytelling. With special glasses, a frog’s tongue is the first element to stretch into the movie audience from its perch on a swamp log. Each viewing tickles the senses with special lighting, wind, falling rain and aromas from hot chocolate to a wandering skunk. More>

Miss Katie’s Sideboard Restaurant serves Southern home style cooking with moving tables and hot rolls that are literally “thrown.” The Georgia Railroad Burger Company across from the Memorial Railroad Depot offers burgers and shakes.

At The Great Barnsm, an indoor four-story interactive playscape, rope nets, mazes, and super slides entertain active children ages 4-12. The creative learning experience uses electronic wristbands to score points as visitors help the fictional Pickens family harvest their fruit at more than 65 interactive stations. High scorers are posted by age every few minutes.

Crossroadssm is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. during summer. Entrance to Crossroadssm is included with a Daily All Attractions Pass adults, $19, and children, $15, plus tax, or with Annual Mountain Membership. Family Packs include year round parking, a $30 value, and start at $85 for a Family 2-Pack, plus tax. For information, contact www.stonemountainpark.com or 800-317-2006 or 770-498-5690.
