Road Atlanta
I love automobile racing, especially road racing and Road Atlanta is one of the
best around.
Road Atlanta became a part of the Panoz Motor Sports Group when
they purchased the property in 1996, Since that time, Don Panoz has made many
improvements at the track. There are many great events during the year that
include the Petit Le Mans, AMA superbike races, and some interesting historic
car races including the Mitty Challenge. You can also enjoy SCCA racing events
and much more. I enjoy spending the entire weekend at the track camping out in
the infield. For information about Road Atlanta (including a current schedule of
events and ticket information) you can contact the track a 1.800.849.RACE or
visit www.roadatlanta.com. The track is
a little less than 50 miles east of Atlanta off of I-85. Take I-85 east to Exit
129, go west on GA 53 about 5 miles to the entrance on the left. Road Atlanta,
5300 Winder Highway, Braselton, GA 30517.

U.S. OPEN STOCK DOG CHAMPIONSHIP
& FARM FESTIVAL
| This is normally held the first week in October is an event that I look forward
to each year. The U.S. Open Stock Dog Championship is one of the largest dog
trial events in the nation. At the trials you will enjoy watching the dogs
as these trials test the everyday working skills of all breeds of working
stock dogs. Each year, judges are brought to the event from the British
Isles to officiate and score. |
 |
 |
The event is held
at Bailey Farm in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, only about an
hours drive from Atlanta. The trials normally host over 100
handlers and dogs from throughout the United States, Canada and Great Britain.
Handlers come in all ages, genders and backgrounds, with the youngest to date
being 12 years old. AIHDA experts will provide demonstrations during the
three-day event on training and care questions. |
This event also features
family events including a petting zoo, pony rides, arts and crafts displays,
wool spinners, blacksmiths and other regional crafts. For more information on the U.S. Open
Stock Dog Championships, contact the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce at
706-265-6278 or Hubert Bailey at 706-265-2669.

Decatur
Athens Pizza - This is one of my
favorite restaurants in this area. Athens Pizza has been here since 1966 when
John and Asiemoula Papadopoulos opened their first restaurant. Everything then
was homemade and good and, everything remains the same today - homemade and
good. Be sure to try one of their pizzas or any of their authentic Greek dishes.
Athens Pizza is located at 1341 Clairmont Road in Decatur, GA 30033. Phone:
404.636.1100. Fx: 404.315.8824. You can visit their website at:

Evans Fine Foods - This is one of those restaurants that is as
far away from being a chain restaurant, as McDonald's is as being a chain. This
is a one-of-a-kind place that has just what the name states, fine foods and
plenty of it. They have a nice menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as
a daily special menu that often includes as many as well over a dozen choices.
What ever you order, it will probably be well made and taste good. And, it will
always be served by a staff that is one of the most friendly you will find
anywhere. Be sure to leave room for a slice of homemade pie or cobbler. I highly
recommend this restaurant. Jim. Evans Fine Foods, 2125 North Decatur Road (at
the corner of Claremont Road in the Emory commons shopping center),

Mexico City Gourmet - I have found the food to be quite good here. Give it a
try. Located at 2134 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033. 404.634.1128
