Things to See and Do

Georgia's Stone Mountain has a long and interesting past. The enormous granite rock alone that is the centerpiece of the park is the largest exposed piece of granite anywhere in the world. American settlers began moving into this area, first named Rock Mountain, in the 1700s. The small town of Stone Mountain, located at the base of the mountain, was incorporated in 1839 and today boasts several shops, stores, and restaurants. Within the park boundaries there is just about something for everyone.

Restaurant and Dining Suggestions

Stone Mountain
The Village Corner - I love German food and have found The village Corner Bakery, Tavern and German Restaurant to be a pretty good place to find it. It is located close to Stone Mountain Park in Stone Mountain Village at 6655 Memorial Drive. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to midnight and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. 770.498.0329, email: cafriese@aol.com. Web sites: www.germanrestaurant.com and www.germanbakery.com.

Miss Katie's Sideboard
As stated on their website, "Southerners weren't the first folks to fry chicken but we sure are the best!" And, it is pretty good, especially when accompanied with some of their redskin mashed potatoes and a choice of vegetables or other side item. This is one of those places that is a "fun" place to eat. The kids will love having their rolls "Hand Tossed" by their server. The rolls are always good and they keep them coming - or is it flying? They have an extensive menu for both big folks and little ones. When you are visiting Stone Mountain Park, be sure to stop by Miss. Katie's in Stone Mountain Village for lunch or dinner.
