With a population of over 16,000 (2000 Census: 16,242), Newnan is a center of planned growth and activity for the west central Georgia region. The city has five historic districts listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The majestic classical revival style courthouse was the site of the murder trial immortalized in the book Murder in Coweta County and has been the site of many movies and TV shows. The renovated shops and restaurants on the square are locally owned by friendly merchants who extend warm southern hospitality to all visitors.
