Brian-Worthington House

The Bryan-Worthington House was built in Stewart County in 1831by Lovered Bryan in 1831and is a fine example of the Federal period architecture that was popular at that time. The exterior of the house is painted the same colors as were on the original house.

Inside of the house is where the looms are located and it is on these looms that many items are made for use in Westville.

Although the interior of the house is authentically decorated with period pieces, the main parlor of the house is taken up by a large weaving loom.

On the day I visited, I was able to watch as Jeanette Greene worked the loom. She was weaving curtains that would be used in other houses throughout Westville. In fact, the pattern she is working on is already being used on some of the windows in the Moye White House. When complete, this material will be used to made additional curtains for the Moye house and other houses in Westville.

The lace curtains you see on the window behind Jeanette were also made on this loom.

In a room at the back of the house, Jeanette works on a rug that will be placed in one of the houses in Westville. Many of the rugs you have seen in Westville, just as with many of the curtains, were probably weaved right here in the Bryan-Worthington House - and most of them probably by Jeanette Greene.

The house represents the dwelling of the operator of the gin and cotton press across the road. The gin operator would want to located quite near his gin and press.
