City and Destination Information Jekyll Island, along with the other "Golden Isles," is steeped in history and overflowing with a variety of activities along the over 10 miles of smooth beaches and inland forests. One of the best ways to see the island is along its 20 miles of twisting paved trails that take you from the interior of the island to the shoreline. This is the perfect way to hone in on historic sites, beaches, marshes and maritime forests. Don't have a bike? Not to worry as there are bicycle rentals are available. Surrounded by the endless waves of St. Simons Sound, St. Andrews Sound and the Atlantic Ocean, Jekyll Island is never short on calming water views. If you are into fishing, you will be in your glory here with surf fishing off the beach or on the freshwater lake. Licenses, tackle and bait are available on the Island. Along with the biking, jogging and walking opportunities, Jekyll has 10 miles of smooth beaches for land lovers who want to sunbathe, pick up a game of volleyball, beach football or just walk along the beach getting your feet wet.
