City and Destination Information Hinesville, the county seat of Liberty County, was named in honor of Senator Charlton Hines. Although Puritans settled Hinesville in 1754, the city was not incorporated until 1916. One of the popular places to visit in Hinesville is the Old Liberty County Jail. This attraction was built in 1882 and contained all the modern conveniences- running water, inside plumbing and fireplaces. The county used this jail until 1972.
