Barnsley Gardens

Your travel source with a personal touch!

Barnsley Gardens is A 19th Century inspired village with charming pedestrian streets lined with beautifully appointed country cottages.

This is one of those places it is hard not to be a romantic.  The entire area looks like something right out of the 1850s!  It has been recreated on the estate of Englishman Godfrey Barnsley.  It was here that he decided to create a wilderness paradise.  He patterned the estate after the visions of Andrew Jackson Downing, the man who laid the plans for the grounds of the U.S. Capitol and the White House.

The ruins of the once stately manner house now sits inside of the wonderful gardens which surround it.  The gardens are pretty much year-round and are filled with cultivated flowers and shrubs as well as trees that are hundreds of years old.

There are several areas near the ruins for a leisurely walk and places to just sit under a shade tree and relax.

This is a great place to do nothing and enjoy doing it!

The accommodations at Barnsley Gardens have to be some of the most unique in the United States -- perhaps, the world!  Guests are invited to take advantage of their own "cottage" located on one of the 1850s streets of the "village."

Barnsley Gardens boasts 70 individually appointed guest rooms in 33 "cottage" residences.  Each unique cottage has a wood-burning fireplace, 12-foot ceilings, hardwood floors, book cabinets, king-size four-poster or sleigh beds, armories and ceiling fans.  Each cottage bathroom features a ball-and-claw foot cast iron tub, a separate shower enclosure, a water closet and a pedestal sink.

Also located at the gardens are two distinctive restaurants.  the Rice House and the Woodlands Grill at the Golf Club.  The Woodlands Grill offers some of the best steaks you will find anywhere!

The Rice House features traditional Southern dining with dishes that have been recreated from old Southern recipes.  You will enjoy the accompanying fresh vegetable that are grown at the resort along with the fresh herbs (also home-grown) that are used to make each dish superb.

For fine dining at its best, try the Rice House at Barnsley Gardens!
