for restaurants and dining in Florida. Many are places I have visited and
enjoyed, or of which I have personal knowledge, and others have been recommended
by visitors to Getting Away. The listings are in
alphabetical order so, just scroll down to the city or area in which you are
interested. And, if you have a personal favorite you would like to
recommend, just let me know.

I suggest you purchase the book
Hidden
Florida before visiting Florida. Everyone visiting Florida (or
living there) should have this book in their travel bookcase. Another
interesting book is
Florida
Off The Beaten Path. Another good book is
Hidden
Florida Keys and The Everglades. A must if you plan to
visit the Keys.

Circling
Florida Driving Tour for an interesting tour along the Atlantic Ocean
and Gulf of Mexico. This tour includes some of my favorite places to eat in
Florida.
Daytona and Daytona Beach Area
For some great seafood drive to Port Orange and visit Aunt Catfish's.
Flagler Beach
Martin's has been recommended by Getting Away visitor Lisa from Douglasville, Georgia. "Best prime rib for the least amount of money." states Lisa. Thanks Lisa.
Inverness
Taking its name from the
Stumpknocker, a fish that has loon been a part of Southern fishing lore,
Stumpknockers on the River in Inverness is one of those great places in
Florida for seafood. I'll admit that from the outside it doesn't seem to be
much, but the food served is great. You can find everything from Gator
Nuggets for an appetizer to fresh baked pies for desert. In between there is
everything from catfish to shellfish to great ocean and freshwater seafood.
And, if you are not into seafood, you can enjoy steaks, including their
famous "Gator Steak." Stumpknockers is located on west Main Street in
Inverness, and at their river location on SW State Road 200 at the
Withiacoochee River Bridge between Inverness and Ocala. Call 352.726.2212 or
Inverness and 352.854.2288 for the river location. Jim |

Jacksonville Beach
Try a BBQ sandwich at the LTD. Great barbecue served on garlic toast.
I never drive by without stopping in for a sandwich!
The Homestead is one of my favorite places for fried chicken. And, if you like chicken livers and gizzards, try their special "Lizards," chicken livers and gizzards with rice.

Miami

Ocala
Carmichael's Restaurant -
This place has been around for about 20 years serving some of the best food in
the area. The menu is great with choices that will please everyone in the
family. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. I have
eaten here several times, and have yet to be disappointed. Carmichael's is
located at 3105 NE Silver Springs Boulevard, Ocala, FL 34470, 352.622.3636.
Orlando
There are several restaurants in Church Street Station. My favorite is Lili Marlene's Aviator Pub.
For you meat lovers out there, try the Cattle Ranch for thick steaks cooked over an orangewood fire.

St. Augustine
Try to have at least one meal at the Raintree Restaurant.
Walt Disney World
Try the fish and chips at the Rose and Crown in EPCOT.
The food at the Marakesh at EPCOT is also very good.
