January
The event year in Florida "kicks off" with the annual Citrus Bowl in Orlando with the battle between the number 2 college teams from the Big Ten and the Southeastern conferences fight it out. 407/849-2020 (information) and 407/849-2020 (tickets).

February
Battles of another type take place on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway (Daytona National Speedway Information) during speed weeks with the Rolex 24 and the Daytona 500 automobile races and the Daytona 200 AMA motorcycle races. 904/254-2700 (information) and 904/253-RACE (tickets).

The Florida State Fair is held in Tampa at the Florida State Fairgrounds with country exhibits, livestock shows, and interesting orchid show, an industrial exposition, and (or course), the traditional amusement rides and entertainment. 813/621-7821.

March
The Players Championship, a PGA event, is held each March near Jacksonville Beach at the Tournament Player's Club at Ponte Vedra. 904/285-7778

September
One of the largest regattas in the south is held each September in Sarasota when the Sarasota Sailing Squadron Labor Day Regatta takes place. 941/388-2355.

October
Jazz Holiday, one of the south's largest free jazz festivals is held in Coachman Park in Clearwater. 813/461-5200.

November
The Blue Angle Air Show (The Blue Angles) is held each November in Pensacola where you can watch the US Navy's world-renowned precision Blue Angles perform their amazing flight demonstrations. As Pensacola is the home of the 'angles,' they really put on a good show here. Be sure to arrive early and stake your claim to a bit of sand on the beach as they perform along side the beach over the Gulf. 1-800-874-1234.

December
Winterfest is a month-long festival that includes a boat parade and downtown New year's Eve celebration in Fort Lauderdale. 954/767-0686.
Football fans can enjoy the Gator Bowl Festival in Jacksonville (904/353-1188) and the Orange Bowl Festival in Miami (305/371-4600.
