Information on attractions, accommodations, and dining in Colorado -
and much more, including things to see and do, parks and recreational areas, annual and special events, and climate information!
From the eastern plains westward to the Rockies, Colorado is one of my favorite states. The land is diverse and beautiful with some of the beauty verging on the edge of spectacular. And if you enjoy mountains, this is the place for you. There are 53 peaks in the state that tower over 14,000 feet and the average elevation of the state is 6,800. In the summer these mountains are perfect for long walks and hiking, and on the winter the state is attacked by thousand so of skiers.
I do not ski, but I do love the outdoors and love walking. Colorado offers a multitude of wonderful walking locations from deep gorges and rainbow-colored canyons, to mesas, and to quiet valleys. You can even take a walk in the shifting sand of the Great Sand Dunes National Monument. There are wonderful parks and recreation area and many state and commercial areas for outdoor activities. However, if you enjoy the indoors you can also find some wonderful places to visit in the larger cities of Denver and Colorado Springs.
In all whether it be for an overnight, a weekend, or an extended stay vacation, Colorado is a great getaway destination. |

Climate and Weather Information
Colorado has a climate that makes it a good place to visit throughout the year. However, I will admit that it is a bit too hot for me in the southern part of the state during the summer. It is also very humid in the summer – just about everywhere in the state. The state does enjoy a generally moderate climate and mild winters. For me, spring and fall are the best times to visit.
During January, February, and March you can expect highs throughout the state from the mid-40s to the mid-60s. It begins to warm up in April with the highs being more in the 70s and lows in the 50s. From May through September you can expect the temperatures to begin to rise from the low 80s to the high 90s. However, it does begin to cool off a bit in September. Especially in the northern part of the state where the temperatures begin to get back into the 70s. October and November are normally quite nice with the highs in the 70s and 60s and the lows in the 50s to high-30s. It then begins to cool off in December with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s.

Restaurants and Dining
Flying W Ranch
The Flying W Ranch is a wonderful place for an evening out if you are visiting the Colorado Springs area. It is an especially fun family outing. The ranch is kinda' like a cowboy museum and attraction with cowboys, horses, and shops. But the best thing are the Chuckwagon
Suppers with great food, music, and lots of fun. I love this
place! Give it a try! Flying W Ranch Chuckwagon Suppers
Manitou Springs
Craftwood Inn
The owners, Dave and Kathy Symonds, along with Chef Jeff Knight welcome you
to The Craftwood Inn and the tradition that is pure Colorado. Our new
Colorado Cuisine carries on the spirit of Bautwell and The Arts and Crafts
movement. Our produce is Colorado's own, and our game, though indigenous, is
drawn from commercial stocks and does not deplete Colorado's prime natural
resources. Coloradoans' appetites are hearty and robust, and so is the
cuisine. We invite you to taste the flavors of Colorado and truly hope you
enjoy our Craft in the Woods. Here you can enjoy everything from a good
western steak to elk, pheasant,
venison, quail, antelope, caribou, vegetarian dishes and more. 404 El Paso
Blvd. Manitou Springs, Colorado 80829. Phone: 719-685-9000.

Garden of the Gods
This has to be one of the most beautiful city parks in the world. Do not miss this wonderful place when you are in
Colorado Springs. I especially enjoy the park in the late afternoon. Take a picnic lunch, walk the trails, and then settle in and look out over
Pike's Peak as the sun sets. And, in the morning, it is almost a religious experience just being in the park.
Red Rocks
You have never experienced a real concert until you have listened to one in the amphitheater at
Red Rocks. However, concerts aside, one of the best reasons this is a favorite place of mine is simply for the outdoor walks and trails. Wonderful way to spend an early morning or late afternoon outside of
Denver.
