City and Destination Information
The following is provided by the Alamosa Visitor Information Center (www.alamosa.org).
Alamosa is the hub of the San Luis Valley in South Central Colorado. Its many hotels, restaurants, activities and shopping choices make it a terrific base camp for the exciting reopening of the scenic rail excursions. Alamosa is located 30 miles from The Great Sand Dunes National Park and is home to world class birding and fishing. Young and old are thrilled by Colorado Gators where over 450 alligators, some over 11 feet long, are living life “large” in the San Luis Valley’s famous geothermal waters. You can soak too, in Sand Dunes Swimming Pool's 150,000 gallons of hot springs water under the vista of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. March brings 20,000 migrating Sandhill Cranes to the Valley, and you won't want to miss the Monte Vista Crane Festival March 10-12. Alamosa is known for its quality lodging and dining. Kids won’t want to miss the Inn of the ’s brand new water park with it's heart thumping 150 foot water slide.  Long known for its huge selection of authentic Mexican restaurants, Alamosa offers Tai, Chinese, Italian, Pub fare, classic diners, fast food and great steak houses. All aboard in Alamosa for a vacation full of trains, sand, water, gators, mountains and more ! Call us today for your free visitor guide.  800-BLU-SKYS.
