Foster City
Hillbarn Theatre
Hillbarn Theatre has a long, endearing history and is the 6th oldest theatre of
its kind in the United States. We will be opening out 65th continuous season of
programming on September 23, 2005. “Pride mixed with nostalgia…at the opening of
the new Hillbarn Little Theatre…” wrote theater critic Barbara Bladen in The San
Mateo Times dated May 27, 1968. She continued, “The collective lump in the
audience’s throat was as big as the theatre itself as the evening divided itself
into ceremonial and theatrical. By the time the play [Dark of the Moon] started,
there were few dry eyes.” So began the 28th consecutive season of Hillbarn
Theatre as they were finally in their permanent home in Foster City, California.
Hillbarn is the 6th oldest continuously operating amateur theater company in the
nation and is the oldest company in San Mateo County.

Scheid Vineyards - At Scheid Vineyards, 100% of the grapes are grown on site. They carefully select only the grapes they believe will make the finest wine possible. Their demonstration vineyard is located a short stroll from the Tasting Room on the edge of the Hacienda Vineyard. Each vine row exhibits a different trellising or viticulture technique which can be found in the vineyards or in other wine growing regions. During the harvest season (usually September and October), visitors are able to learn first hand how hand picking is done by harvesting a few bunches themselves! Fresh grape and finished wine comparisons can be made a few steps away in the Tasting Room. The tasting room for Scheid Vineyards is located at 1972 Hobson Avenue, Greenfield, CA 93927. Tasting Room Hours: 11AM-5PM Daily. Phone: 888-4SVIWINE or 831-386-0316. Fax: 831-386-0127. |

Kings Canyon.
Ranging from 1500' to 14,494' in elevation, these adjoining parks protect
immense mountains, deep canyons, huge trees, and stunningly diverse habitats.
The Generals Highway climbs over 5000 feet from chaparral and oak-studded
foothills to the awe-inspiring sequoia groves. From there, trails lead to the
high-alpine wilderness which makes up most of these parks. Beneath the surface
lie many beautiful caverns. Although they were created by separate acts of
Congress, Sequoia and Kings Canyon share miles of boundary and are managed as
one park. Sequoia was the second national park designated in this country. Click

Lassen National Park
Lassen National Park is filled with fascinating cultural and
large-scale hydrothermal features, unlike any other volcano in the Cascade
Range. With a long and interesting volcanic history, Lassen Park contains nearly
every type of volcanic feature known and is unmatched in its variety. Filled
with lush old-growth forests, clear mountain streams and lakes, bubbling mudpots,
hissing fumaroles, remnants of ancient mountains long gone, and the evidence of
recent volcanism in the cratered Lassen Peak, the park abounds with cultural and
natural history to entice a wide variety of interests. Lassen Volcanic National
Park gives us a glimpse into the past when primordial mountain peaks stood where
lush forests now flourish and native peoples enjoyed the natural splendors still
abundant in the park today.

| The 101 Cafe began its life as a small 20-seat diner in 1928, opened by the Ekegren family. It was just the small dining room where the counters are now. As today, the restaurant was noted for its breakfast, which is still served all day. The Cafe was named for the old highway which it fronted Highway 101. The Greyhound bus stopped right in front until the 1940's when a bus station was located downtown. The diner enjoyed the traffic generated by Highway 101, which was the main access from Los Angeles to San Diego until 1953 when Highway 101 was relocated to the present location of Interstate 5. The 101 Cafe serves home-style food in a fun atmosphere. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with breakfast served all day. They also have hard-pack ice cream and great milk shakes. 631 South Coast Highway, Oceanside, CA 92054. (760) 722-5220. www.101cafe.net. |

San Joaquin County

Sequoia National Park. Ranging from 1500' to 14,494' in elevation, these adjoining parks protect immense mountains, deep canyons, huge trees, and stunningly diverse habitats. The Generals Highway climbs over 5000 feet from chaparral and oak-studded foothills to the awe-inspiring sequoia groves. From there, trails lead to the high-alpine wilderness which makes up most of these parks. Beneath the surface lie many beautiful caverns. Although they were created by separate acts of Congress, Sequoia and Kings Canyon share miles of boundary and are managed as one park. Sequoia was the second national park designated in this country. Twenty-nine Palms
| Yosemite National Park in Northern California is one of my personal favorites. Yosemite National Park embraces a spectacular tract of mountain-and-valley scenery in the Sierra Nevada that is filled with waterfalls, meadows, and forests that include groves of giant sequoias, the world's largest living things. Highlights of the park include Yosemite Valley, and its high cliffs and waterfalls; Wawona's history center and historic hotel; the Mariposa Grove, which contains hundreds of ancient giant sequoias; Glacier Point's (summer-fall) spectacular view of Yosemite Valley and the high country; Tuolumne Meadows (summer-fall), a large subalpine meadow surrounded by mountain peaks; and Hetch Hetchy, a reservoir in a valley considered a twin of Yosemite Valley. Click on Yosemite National Park for travel guides, brochures, and money savers to help you plan your visit. |
