City and Destination Information

The following is presented by the city of Soledad (www.cityofsoledad.com)

Located in the central Salinas Valley of Monterey County, the City of Soledad is approximately 130 miles south of San Francisco, 40 miles southeast of the Monterey Peninsula, 25 miles south of Salinas and 25 miles north of King City. Soledad is currently the fastest growing city within California, increasing at an average annual rate of 8% over the last five years. Our current population is 26,203, including the nearby state correctional facility, which is a part of the City.

Soledad is a great place to live and visit. It has affordable housing, good schools, a safe, family environment and all the services required by its citizens. From Soledad, visitors can easily enjoy and access fine wine tasting, the Pinnacles National Monument, recreational and boating activities at Naciemento and San Antonio Lakes, the Arroyo Seco Wilderness Area, the county government center in Salinas, the Monterey Peninsula beaches and tourist attractions and the beautiful coastline of Big Sur. The Climate in Soledad is relatively mild and enjoyable year round.

The City is development friendly and continues to attract new businesses and residential housing projects that improve the quality of life in the community. New projects include the Downtown Front Street Revitalization Project, the Mission Shopping Center, the Gabilan Plaza Retail Center, the Los Coches Industrial Park and the large 470 residential units Miravale II subdivision development. We invite all to come visit us and even look to relocate to our community with your business or family.

Things to See and Do
Hahn Estates Winery and Tasting Room - Hahn Estates is owned and operated by the Nicolaus Hahn Family. Nicolaus (“Nicky”) Hahn is a Swiss businessman, adventurer and philanthropist whose venturesome spirit brought him and his family to Monterey in the mid 1970's. While living in England , the Hahns had discovered a love for California wines. A two-year search guided them to Monterey County with its breathtaking beauty and ideal growing conditions. Nicky quickly realized that this region had as much potential to produce world-class wines as any other in the state. He and his wife Gaby purchased Smith & Hook Winery in 1980, laying the groundwork for their long-term commitment to bring out the full potential of Monterey .

The Hahn Estate Tasting Room located in the Santa Lucia Highlands has commanding views of the Salinas Valley and surrounding mountains from high above the valley floor. Surrounded by ever changing colors of the season, the acres of vineyards provide a beautiful backdrop for tasting, picnicking and shopping. The tasting Room is open daily.  It features an open, airy, cozy facility filled with unique gifts, wine gadgets and rousing roosters ... after all, Hahn in German is "rooster". There are roosters of every size and shape, texture and style. Besides sampling award-winning wines, there are samples of sumptuous jams, mustards, sauces and dips. Don't forget to try the Hahn Estates Chocolate wine Sauce ... divine over ice cream and available in an elegant bottle. 37700 Foothill Road, P.O. Drawer C, Soledad, California 93960.

The Vineyards Of Paraiso Paraiso anchors the southern end of the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation. Rich Smith began planting the 400-acre Paraiso Springs property in 1973. Today, almost 150,000 vines occupy the sixteen different vineyard blocks, situated in the hills and canyons of the estate's rough terrain. The vineyards, with their varying soils, elevations, and microclimates, produce grapes uniquely expressive of their site. Taken together, they offer the winemaker a painter's palette of complex, flavorful hues from which to choose. The vineyards and tasting room are located at 38060 Paraiso Springs Road. Telephone: 831.678.0300. www.paraisovineyards.com.
