City and Destination Information

Burlingame is known as the 'City of Trees' due to the number of trees within the city. It is estimated that there are nearly 20,000 trees in public areas of the city. In addition, many of the residential properties have trees that are owned and protected by the city on their public right of way. The city has many parks and it seems that there are eucalyptus groves almost everywhere. Washington Park is the oldest park in Burlingame. It was originally part of the Gunst Estate, and some of the existing large trees within the park were part of this estate. Located in San Mateo County, it's San Francisco Peninsula location may be best known for the San Francisco International Airport. So, whenever you fly into San Francisco, you normally fly over Burlingame as it is just south of the airport in San Mateo County. When you leave the airport, and reach the 101, a turn to the south will take you through Millbrae and into Burlingame. So, as long as you are so close,  why not spend a few days and see what this city and county have to offer. Burlingame is located on the bayside of the country, and the county stretches across the hills to the west to the Pacific.

The city was named after diplomat Anson Burlingame and is known for many surviving examples of Victorian architecture. Burlingame was settled by wealthy San Franciscans looking for a better climate for their second homes, and a better way of life outside of the busy metropolitan area of San Francisco. They enjoyed their time here, and so will you.

Things to See and Do

Crystal Springs Golf Course
With it's location alongside the Crystal Springs Reservoir, the Crystal Springs Golf Course is one  of the Bay Area’s most unique golf courses. The course meanders along the Buri Buri Ridge of the old San Mateo Rancho offering golfers some great vistas of the reservoir,   the Coastal Range, and abundant wildlife. The 18th hole is actually situated on part of a wildlife refuge. The history of this course is unique. The course was originally designed in the 1920s as a private club by the noted British golf architect Herbert Fowler. If you don't know who Fowler is, just think of the famous oceanside course at Pebble Beach. He is the one that created the great finishing hole there.
