Things to See and Do

This is the location of Tumacácori National Historical Park. This small historical area is located in the upper Santa Cruz River Valley of southern Arizona and is comprised of the abandoned ruins of three ancient Spanish colonial missions. The Park is located on 360 acres in three separate units. San José de Tumacácori and Los Santos Ángeles de Guevavi, established in 1691, are the two oldest missions in Arizona. The third unit, San Cayetano de Calabazas, was established in 1756. Visitation to the Guevavi and Calabazas units is available only by reservation during monthly tours guided by the Park staff. All visitor services and Park operations are based out of the Tumacácori unit. http://www.nps.gov/tuma. While you are here, be sure to stop across the street for lunch or dinner at the Tumacacori Restaurant where they have traditional Greek items on the menu as well as some Mexican favorites. I really enjoy the food here, as well as the conversation.

An interesting stop in Tumacacori is the An interesting stop in Tumacacori is the Tumacacori Mesquite Sawmill. It is the oldest mesquite source in Arizona. They have a large yard filled with cut mesquite, and a nice showroom where you can purchase items made from the mesquite tree including mantles, doors, furniture and beautiful craft items. Click on Tumacacori Mesquite Sawmill for additional information and pictures.

Restaurants and Dining Suggestions

Tumacacori Restaurant - I really enjoy this place. I find the food to be quite good. It is all prepared fresh. The owners, Marie and Robert Ziegler, are almost always on hand to help with the preparation of the food, and available to sit a spell with you for some interesting conversation. You will enjoy the distinctive Greek food. Located just across the street from the Tumacácori National Historical Park, it makes a good place to sit and relax for lunch or dinner after visiting the park.
