Tumacacori Mesquite Sawmill

Your travel source with a personal touch!
Tumacacori Mesquite Sawmill is located on the old Nogales highway, now called the East Frontage Road, between Tubac and Tumacacori. Located on the east side of the road, the entrance is easy to find. Just look for the large saw blade cutting through the mesquite log. There is a nice showroom and a large, well-kept lumber yard. The showroom is filled with finished products and, if you like, you can walk the yard to find the perfect piece of mesquite to finish as you like, or have Art finish the product for you. He can also arrange shipment of large items right to your home.

Tumacacori Mesquite is owned and operated by sawyer and artisan Art Flores. Here he has produced mesquite lumber and craft products for over 20 years. Art commercially mills mesquite from logs to lumber to produce fine mesquite furniture and a series of custom doors. He then recycles the "scrap" from his milling operation to create a range of small craft items including cutting boards, crosses, and limb boxes.

If the gate at the road is open, they are open even if the door of the shop is locked. Often they are back in the yard working the wood. If the door is locked, just ring for them or, if they can be seen out in the yard, give them a yell and someone will come up to the office to let you in.

As long as you see the large "Open" sign, you can be sure they are somewhere about.

Inside the showroom you can find lots of great items made from mesquite. The warm color of the worked mesquite is beautiful when transformed into an interesting piece of furniture or a fireplace mantle. There are also several smaller craft item you can use as decorator accents in your home or office.

The Tumacacori Mesquite Sawmill is located 20 miles north of the Mexican border in southern Arizona in the heart of the mesquite bosque (forest) region of the Sonoran desert. Tumacacori Mesquite, PO Box 158, 2007 E. Frontage Road, Tumacacori, Arizona 85640.  520.398.9356. info@mesquitedesign.com. www.mesquitedesign.com.

Art is intimately entwined with mesquite and the borderland culture and geography with which it is associated to the extent that even Art's home is built with this extraordinary wood.
