When you look at the tourist brochures, it may look as though all this is is an artists' community where all you will find are expensive, original works of art. While there are several good artists, along with several shops that do sell some very nice original pieces of art; it is also Southwest souvenir mecca where you can find just about anything Southwest.

Some of the better fine art in the area is found at the Karin Newby Gallery (Mercado de Baca, 19 Tubac Rd., 888/398-9662 or 520/398-9662; www.karinnewbygallery.com). For traditional Western art, some by members of the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America, visit the Big Horn Galleries (37 Tubac Rd., tel. 520/398-9209, www.bighorngalleries.com). I also enjoy the Gallery Michael Gibbons, (18 Calle Iglesia, tel. 520/398-3109; www.michaelgibbons.net). And, if you want to take the flavor of the area home, stop in at The Chile Pepper, on Tubac Road in downtown Tubac (tel. 520/398-2921), for gourmet foods with a Southwestern accent. And, if you do, there is a chance you might see me there as I really enjoy the coffee!

But there are many more good shops in the village. Below I have started a listing of the shops and galleries, and I will add more to them as I have time. And, if you have a favorite that is not listed here, or if you have a shop or gallery and would like it listed here, be sure to contact Jim at Getting Away. mailto:jimbruner@gettingaway.com

If you know the name of the shop you are looking for, just click on the letter that corresponds with the first letter of the name of the shop. Or, just click on any of the letters that are blue and underlined and they will take you to the shops that begin with that letter. Or, if you don't know the name of the shop, just scroll through the list below and click on something that looks interesting.
