Tonalea (Navajo: Tó Nehelį́į́h) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Coconino County. The population was 562 at the 2000 census. As of the census of 2000, there were 562 people, with the racial makeup of the CDP being 99.11% Native American, 0.71% White, and 0.18% from other races. One of the more interesting thing of note is the nearby Elephant Feet, two interesting rock formations just off of the highway east of town. Pat and I parked the RV there on a trip from our home to Durango for a lunch break. It proved to be an interesting place to sit and enjoy lunch on our trip. |

![]() The Elephant Feet made for an interesting place for a lunch break. As you can see by the picture at the right, Pat was very happy making us some three bean chili for lunch which we ate looking out at the Elephant Feet and the surrounding countryside. |
