City and Destination Information

The following information is provided by the Green Valley - Sahuarita Chamber of Commerce. Green Valley ~ Sahuarita Chamber of Commerce,
270 West Continental Road, suite 100, Green Valley, Arizona 85622 . http://www.greenvalleychamber.com

Green Valley , Arizona , is much more than a booming Arizona retirement community. With nine golf courses, shopping plazas, dozens of clubs and volunteer organizations, medical facilities, places of worship and recreation centers, Green Valley is a destination for retirees seeking an active lifestyle. And while most of Green Valley is age-restricted, there are also areas where you'll find non-age-restricted communities where families with children live. Just north and east of Green Valley is the growing town of Sahuarita where non-age restricted housing is plentiful along with excellent schools, parks and gorgeous subdivisions.

Madera Canyon
In southeastern Arizona, the majestic Santa Rita Mountains tower as a "sky island" above a surrounding sea of Sonoran Desert. The Santa Ritas are the location of the beautiful Madera Canyon. Click on Madera Canyon for additional information and pictures.

Titan II Missile Museum
Located just north of the town is the only Titan II missile silo in the United States. A expertly guided tour (sometimes led by crew members who actually served in the missile silo) is given daily and includes a tour deep into the missile silo still housing a 103 foot tall Titan. Golfing in Green Valley
Canoa Hills Golf Club was formed from the perfect melding of natural terrain and architectural design by Dave Bennett. A serene setting with plenty of natural privacy is the final result. The course flows naturally among the ravines carved into the desert landscape of the Santa Cruz River Valley and the native plant and wildlife provide for a new and exciting experience during each visit to Canoa Hills. From the clubhouse perched above the first and tenth tees, the panoramic views seem never ending. The majestic Mt. Wrightson, Elephant Head, Hopkins Observatory, and the Santa Rita Mountains provide a beautiful backdrop for the Canoa Hills Golf Club and can be seen from each of the eighteen distinctive holes on the course. Having opened for play in 1984, the par-72 layout is located just 20 minutes south of Tucson, in Southern Arizona's golf capital of Green Valley. Canoa Hills and sister club San Ignacio Golf Club, just a mile south of Canoa Hills, offer "Two Great Choices, with One Great Experience". Due to their proximity, Canoa Hills and San Ignacio have become a popular golfing destination for visitors to the area. Canoa Hills Golf Club is part of the Wildcat Golf Trail (www.WildcatTrail.com)

San Ignacio Golf Club
Just 20 minutes south of Tucson, this par 71 facility built in 1989, offers yardages from 5,200 to 6,704 depending on the tees selected. The strategy is sublime. One outstanding feature is the visibility from tee to green. Golfers see everything they must encounter before they swing the driver. The signature number 13th hole is a double-dogleg 522-yard, par five with elevated tees and a double lake along the left side. The club is at 3,000 feet elevation which offers a cooler temperature in the middle of the summer than other Tucson courses. San Ignacio is the site of extensive practice facilities and offers world famous John Jacobs Golf Schools throughout the year. The San Ignacio Golf Club is part of the Wildcat Golf Trail (www.WildcatTrail.com)

Restaurants and Dining Suggestions

El Sol de Cobre
Great food with an excellent menu of both Mexican and American food. Not the easiest place to find, but well worth the effort. They are open 7 days a week from 11:00 to 8:30 - and sometimes open for breakfast at 7, depending on the season (call first about breakfast hours). 1451 S. La Canada, Green Valley, AZ  85614. 520.625.6671. From I-19, drive west to the second stop light (S. La Canada), turn left and the restaurant is just ahead on the left.

Gift & Gab
Great place for a coffee or some ice cream. They also serve Panini sandwiches. They have all of your favorite coffee drinks, both hot and cold, made with Tully's Coffee. They also have free WiFi. And, not only can you have a sandwich, ice cream specialty or something to drink, but you can also walk around the gift shop to find that perfect souvenir of Arizona. The offer inside and outside dining. I visit them regularly and, when you are in the area, you should too. They are located off the  Duval Mine Road (I-19), head west to the access road and turn left and follow the road to where it crosses the wash. Then, look for Manuel's and they are located right behind them. 520.648.1902.
CLICK HERE for additional information and pictures.

The Greens Restaurant
Located in the Green Valley Mall, this is a great place for a good lunch. Almost everything is prepared fresh. Get there early before they run out of the homemade soup of the day and homemade pie. 648.5531.

Kokopelli’s Gelato Factory & European Coffee Café
Get off of the interstate at the Continental Road exit and head east to the corner of Continental & Whitehouse Canyon Road (just follow the signs for Madera Canyon) and get a taste or Rome, Italy when you enjoy one of the many flavors of real gelato. They make their own and normally have about 16 flavors of gelato, including such Italian favorites as Triamisu, Hazelnut, Rum Raisin, Pistachio (my personal favorite), Amaretto, and Stracitella; Americanized flavors such as Butter Pecan, rocky Road, Cheesecake, Caramel Snicker Bar, Mint Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chocolate Chip Pecan, Pina Colada; and also fruit flavors (made with real fruits!) such as Coconut, Mango, Lemon, Raspberry, and Strawberry, so you will always find a favorite!

Along with their great gelato, you can sit inside or outside and enjoy some of their bakery products, espresso and coffee bar, homemade fudge, turtles and more. I highly recommend Kokopelli’s. Kokopelli’s Gelato Factory & European Coffee Café, 514 East Whitehouse Canyon Road, Suite 100, Green Valley, AZ  85614. Phone: 520.203.7401. E-mail: kokosgelato@cox.net Web: www.kokosgelato.com

La Placita Family Restaurant
For good and authentic Mexican food, be sure to stop by La Placita for a nice menu of Mexican favorites. Located at 99 West Esperanza Boulevard in Green Valley Mall. Phone: 520.625.2111.
