A Personal Note From Jim
As my family roots are in Arkansas this state is a little special to me. You can still find traces of my family in Bay, Arkansas. In fact, there is even a Bruner street there. Much of the rest of the family were from Jonesboro and Lake City. Therefore I have spent time in Arkansas as both a resident and a traveler. And, I have found that it is a great state for a getaway whether it be for an overnight in a nice little bed and breakfast somewhere, a weekend in one of the interesting cities of Arkansas, or a vacation in one of the state parks or recreational areas of the state.
Arkansas is especially a great place for someone who enjoys the out doors. The beautiful Ozarks and Ouachaita mountains ranges, separated by the Arkansas river, are filled with wonderful vacation spots nestled in the hardwood forests and alongside of the cool streams you will find there. You will find just about everything here: wilderness areas, caves, forests, springs, meadows, quite valleys, bayous, and even cosmopolitan cities like Hot Springs. The fisherman will enjoy the magnificent rivers and lakes of the state. In fact, there is just about something here for everyone to enjoy.
Jim.
Visitor Information
There are tourist information centers at several points of entry into the state were travel consultants can provide suggested tour routes, information on lodging and dining, information on places of interest and things to see and do, and offer you a state tour guide and a map. The information centers are located in Bentonville (US 71S), Blytheville (I-55S), Corning (US 67S), Fort Smith/Van Buren or Dora (I-40E), El Dorado (US 167N), Harrison (US 65S), Helena (US49E), Lake Village (at the junction of US 65 & AR 144), Mammoth Spring (US 63), Red River (US 71N), Siloam Springs (US 412E), Texarkana (I-30E), and in West Memphis (I-40W). Climate and Weather Information
Arkansas has a climate that makes it a good place to visit throughout the year. However, I will admit that it is a bit too hot for me in the southern part of the state during the summer. It is also very humid in the summer – just about everywhere in the state. The state does enjoy a generally moderate climate and mild winters. For me, spring and fall are the best times to visit.
During January, February, and March you can expect highs throughout the state from the mid-40s to the mid-60s. It begins to warm up in April with the highs being more in the 70s and lows in the 50s. From May through September you can expect the temperatures to begin to rise from the low 80s to the high 90s. However, it does begin to cool off a bit in September. Especially in the northern part of the state where the temperatures begin to get back into the 70s. October and November are normally quite nice with the highs in the 70s and 60s and the lows in the 50s to high-30s. It then begins to cool off in December with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s.

Additional information may be obtained from the Department of Parks and Tourism, Parks Division, One Capitol Mall, Little Rock, AR 72201; 501/682-1191(voice/TDD).
