Calypso Farm and Ecology Center
Calypso Farm and Ecology Center
is a non-profit, educational farm
based in Ester, Alaska. We provide hands-on science education to Fairbanks
school children through our education programs, and our diversified farm feeds a
number of local families as well as residents of the local women's shelter. This
web site provides introductory information on these and other programs,
volunteer and membership opportunities, and our future plans.
Calypso Farm and Ecology Center is located at mile
five of the Old Nenana Hwy. Take the Ester turn off of the Parks Highway between
the truck weigh station and the Volunteer Fire Department- this is the Old

ALASKAN TAILS OF THE TRAIL
While visiting Fairbanks, Alaska in summer, share a personal home visit with
Mary Shields, celebrated Alaskan musher and author, and her sled dogs. you may have met her in one of her books, on
television or at the Riverboat Discovery. Hear about her love of living in
Alaska with her family of sled dogs. Learn about Mary's thirty-six years of
adventure in mushing, where a dog team carries her to a quiet life in the
wilderness. Her achievements have been recognized and honored by the State of
Alaska and international dog mushing organizations. Mary has been sharing her dogs with visitors to
Fairbanks since 1984. Groups are small to allow for personal attention. Mary's
home is just minutes from Fairbanks and is easy to find. Transportation is
available. The 2-hour summer tour, designed for adults & children over 8,
begins daily at 7:30 p.m. (Remember it's light all night!)
Reservations are required. Group size is limited. Groups of 10 or more may want
