Travel
Etiquette
Behavior and customs vary greatly from country to country. We
discuss the correct travel etiquette so that you won't be caught out.
TravelEtiquette was formed to offer a unique reference
point on essential etiquette advice and information for worldwide
travel. Our features and articles are written by professional
journalists and experts - who have a particular interest, or a
background in this area. So – know before you go. Visit
TravelEtiquette so you will know how to, as the old adage states, “When in Rome,
do as the Romans do.”
Attractions and
Things to See and Do
You might believe that a country like Argentina would have a
lot of festivals and fiestas, but this is not the case and most public holidays
reflect the Roman Catholic liturgical calendar. Because of this, things pretty
much come to a stop between Christmas and the New Year and during Easter.
Saints' days and provincial holidays are other important events, as are 25 May
(commemorating the May Revolution of 1810), Malvinas Day (10 June) and Columbus
Day (12 October).
There is quite a bit to do here and Buenos Aires' attractions
include the Catedral Metropolitana, which contains the tomb of
revolutionary hero José de San Martín; the Teatro Colón, a world-class
facility for opera, ballet and classical music, and several interesting museums
such as the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, the Museo del Cine and
the Museo Histórico Nacional. You will also want to experience the
colorful Italian suburb of La Boca, which features brightly painted
wooden houses alongside the Riachuelo waterway. The Cementerio de la
Recoleta is another interesting place to visit.
The Parque National Lihué Calel is a popular place to
visit with an abundance of wildlife including some puma and many guanaco, rhea,
native hares and a variety of wild chinchilla called a vizcacha.
Iguazú Falls
These spectacular falls, situated in the Parque
Nacional Iguazú near Puerto Iguazú, lie just east of the confluence of the
Iguazú and Paraná rivers. Over 175,000 cubic feet of water per second plunge
over 200 feet into the abyss below. You may have seen the falls in the film
The Mission. The area has historic ruins of Jesuit missions which also draw
many visitors. San Ignacio Miní, built in a style of architecture known
as 'Guaraní baroque', is one of the more popular in the area. You can enjoy
canoeing, kayaking and other water sports in the more gentle waters above the
falls. The park area is well over 130,000 acres of subtropical rainforest with
abundant wildlife and plant species.
Patagonia
This large region south of Buenos Aires province
features a mountainous interior, unique coastal wildlife and Andean national
parks. Península Valdés is a
special treat for lovers of wildlife where you can see large numbers of sea
lions, elephant seals, guanacos, rheas, Magellanic penguins, sea birds,
flamingos and right whales. The Perito Moreno Glacier of Santa Cruz is an
almost 200-foot high ice "river" of rising and toppling ice. Carmen de
Patagones is a beautiful colonial city and there are where you can find
remnants of the area's previous Welsh inhabitants, particularly in the town of
Gaiman.

Worldwide Riding Vacations : A
Global Guide - Not just a guide to dude ranches, this handsome
updated edition lists more strenuous and interesting equestrian trips by
continent and then by country. Printed on heavy coated stock and
illustrated with many color photographs, it includes over 100 entries.
Each lists the company, address, phone number, E-mail, FAX, closest
airports, price, and when available. There are descriptions of
accommodations, meals, activities, and the horses and riding equipment, as
well as a list of equestrian travel agencies and associations. British
equestrian writer Ruler writes frequently on riding vacations and is an
