Getting
To New Zealand
Most visitors to New Zealand arrive by air. New Zealand's
three international airports are at Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Some

By Car
Driving in New Zealand
International
Driving Licenses and Permits
You can legally drive in New Zealand for up to 12 months if you have either a
current driver's license from your home country, or an International Driving
Permit (IDP). All overseas visitors, must carry their license or permit
when driving. Make sure your overseas driver's license is current. If your license
is not in English, you should bring an English translation with you or obtain an
International Driving Permit. Contact your local automobile club for further
details about obtaining a translation or an IDP.
Road Safety
►If you plan to drive in New Zealand, here are some important tips:
►In New Zealand, all motorists drive on the left-hand side of the road.
►When you are turning left, you must yield (give way) to traffic crossing or
approaching from your right.
►You cannot turn on a red light like you can in the U.S. When
the traffic light is red, you must stop.
►The speed limit on the open road is 100km/h (approx 60m/h). In more congested
area, the speed limit is50km/h.
►Drivers and passengers must wear seat belts at all times
