General Information
Western Australia is the largest state in the world, The state covers one-third of the Australian continent and is about 1 million square miles. Western Australia has several climatic zones and when it is warm and dry in the north of the State, it is cool and wet in the south - that's how big Western Australia is.

Despite the size, the population is only 1,798,000 of which 1,380,000 people live in Perth which enjoys more hours of sunshine than any other capital city in Australia.

Climate Information
As already mentioned, Western Australia is so large that the climate is apt to vary quite a bit from north to south.

Perth and South of Perth
Spring and summer (September to February) are mild to warm so bring light to medium-weight clothing. Autumn and winter (March to August) are cooler requiring warmer clothes.

North of Perth
Spring and summer (September to February) are hot so wear cool clothing. Autumn and winter (March to August) are mild to warm so light to medium weight clothes are useful.

Currency Information
Australian currency is decimal. Notes come in denominations of $5, $10, $20, $50, $100 and coins 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2.

Banks are open from 9.30am - 4.00pm Monday to Thursday and 9.30am to 5.00pm on Fridays. Automatic Teller Machines are readily available at all other times.
