Information
Western Australia is the largest state in the world, The state
covers one-third of the Australian continent and is about 1 million square
miles. Western Australia has several climatic zones and when it is warm and dry
in the north of the State, it is cool and wet in the south - that's how big
Western Australia is.
Despite the size, the population is only 1,798,000 of which
1,380,000 people live in Perth which enjoys more hours of sunshine than any
other capital city in Australia.
International passports and visas are required by all
international visitors (only New Zealanders do not require a visa).

Customs
Information
Visitors over 18 years may bring in 250 cigarettes or 250gm of cigars, 1 litre
of alcohol and dutiable goods to the value of $400 to Australia. Penalties for
illegal drug offences are severe.

Western Australia is free of many pests, weeds and diseases found elsewhere in Australia.
To protect our agriculture and to maintain a fresh, natural environment, some items
must be declared at quarantine checkpoints. Included on this list would be fresh fruit and vegetables,
plants and flowers, seeds, nuts, honey, animals and birds, and used fruit and vegetable containers.
Inspectors are located at major road, rail, sea and entry points into the State. Detector dogs may be present. If in

Climate
Information
As already mentioned, Western Australia is so large that the
climate is apt to vary quite a bit from north to south.
Perth and South of Perth
Spring and summer (September to February) are mild to warm so bring light to
medium-weight clothing. Autumn and winter (March to August) are cooler requiring
warmer clothes.
North of Perth
Spring and summer (September to February) are hot so wear cool clothing. Autumn
and winter (March to August) are mild to warm so light to medium weight clothes
are useful.
Currency Information
Australian currency is decimal.
Notes come in denominations of $5, $10, $20, $50, $100 and coins 5c, 10c, 20c,
50c, $1 and $2.
Banks are open from 9.30am - 4.00pm
Monday to Thursday and 9.30am to 5.00pm on Fridays. Automatic Teller Machines
are readily available at all other times.
Foreign exchange is
available at city banks, major hotels, Thomas Cook offices, American Express
offices, the Perth International Airport and Foreign Currency Exchange.
By Air

Australia to Perth daily across the Eyre Highway, and throughout the North of

Air As Western Australia is so large it is often easiest
to get around by air. For all travel within Australia, passengers can fly with
Ansett Australia (AN) or
Qantas Airways (QF). These carriers have services to
the other Australian capitals on a daily basis. Western Australia is 2,125 miles
from Sydney, or about 5 hours by air.
