Getting
Around In Jordan
By Bus
Buses link
the capital of Amman (from the main station at Al-Abdali) to most
major towns in Jordan. There
are seven daily trips to Aqaba, one daily trip to the Jordanian spa
resort, Ma’in, and one daily trip to Petra. For
more information on bus schedules and prices, please contact either JETT
directly at Tel # 9626- 5621216, Fax # 9626-5698223 or Jordan Tourism Board at
Tel # 9626-567294, Fax #9626-5678295.
By Taxi
Taxis are inexpensive and are often the most convenient form of transportation
in Jordan, even over substantial distances, such as a trip from Amman to Aqaba.
There are two kinds of taxis: the white-painted “service
taxi’” and the yellow-painted “private taxis.” Service taxis travel
according to fixed routes and are shared simultaneously by several customers.
Private taxis can be taken from ranks outside hotels or hailed in the street.
Taxis have meters, but these are not always used at night. It is highly
advisable to agree on costs beforehand, particularly for long journeys. Tipping
is not required, but it is customary to pay the nearest round figure to the
price on the meter.
Limousine taxis are available and they operate from five and
four star hotels. They have fixed rates, are more luxurious than service and
private taxis, and are also air-conditioned. For a fixed rate, they provide
transport from Jordan’s Queen Alia International Airport to any part of Amman.
If interested in utilizing this service, you should buy a ticket from the kiosk
after you emerge from the Customs Department into the arrival hall of the
airport.
Please note that a private taxi ride will cost approximately
$20 from Queen Alia Airport to the capital of Amman.
