Ritz-Carlton

Ritz-Carlton - Cancun may not be the most authentic way to see Mexico; the hotel district is concentrated on a barrier island, separate from the city, and the admittedly fine beach is not exactly unspoiled — the island is overbuilt and garish, a grab bag of architectural styles, dozens of resorts and hotels in a row. What is available in Cancun is a splendid climate, some gorgeous oceanfront, and, at the Ritz-Carlton, the sort of elegant pampering for which the chain has become known. The elegance and exclusivity of the Ritz-Carlton goes a long way toward bringing an element of class to Cancun — the hotel's august European flavor is the perfect antidote to the clownish kitsch of the lesser hotels.
