Bern
This is the Capital of Switzerland and it is here you will find the Parliament Building from where Switzerland is governed. Bern is built on a peninsular formed by a meander of the River Aar and it is centrally located and easy to reach. This makes it an ideal starting point from which you can discover the whole of Switzerland by taking day trips. The Old Town of Bern has an interesting place to shop that is billed as one of the longest "weatherproof" shopping malls in Europe. Under these covered arcades filled with a mediaeval atmosphere are shops in the cellar vaults that are very interesting and unique. Bern also has many museums, theatres, landmarks, cafés, restaurants and shops - not to mention the weekly market (and the lovely Christmas market) - all of which can be easily reached on foot. Lucerne

This centrally located Swiss city is one of my favorite. I love the picturesque old town which is car-free and small enough to be explored on foot. Stop at a sidewalk cafe for a sweet and a cup of coffee and enjoy some people watching. Walk across the famous covered bridge, the "Kapellbrücke," that spans the Reuss river and take a look at the paintings. Hop on a ferry boat and explore the area on the water as there is deep blue water everywhere. Enjoy the museums, especially the famous Swiss Transport Museum. Take a steamboat to the steep and nostalgic mountain railways that lift you up high to one of the surrounding pre-alpine summits. But there is a lot more to see and do here than sightseeing. The people of Lucerne just love to party and this very same spirit has kept alive many different customs and traditions which, together with more recent events, shape the local cultural scene. You can experience some of this at one of the Swiss Folklore Shows. Lucerne is also filled with some great shopping opportunities. Montreux

FAIRMONT LE MONTREUX PALACE
Fairmont Le Montreux Palace is situated on the shores of Lake Geneva in Switzerland, overlooking the Alps. There is always something happening on the Swiss Riviera, whether it be the international events punctuating the year: the Jazz Festival in July, during the winter season the theatre performances and the classical music concerts, and the Christmas market and the "Festival du rire".

Fairmont Le Montreux Palace has 235 rooms and suites, most of which overlook the lake, and thus offer a fabulous panorama of the vigor and freshness of nature, all drenched in light. A few pieces of antique furniture--desk, chest of drawers or wardrobe--enrich a decor recently renovated in the Belle Époque spirit. Our hotel is no stranger to high technology!

When it comes to taste, we have something for everyone! Fairmont Le Montreux Palace has no fewer than four different restaurants. A quick snack or a gourmet meal? A quiet table on the lakeshore or a dinner with jazz music? It's up to you…Its four restaurants, two bars and nightclub offer a vast palate of choice for all its clientele. The old Town is one of the finest in Switzerland. Add to this the cultural highlights and events that are spread over the whole year, such as its renowned Film and Literature Days and its Classic Open-air Concerts with world-class voices, and this make an interesting vacation location. The boulevard cafés give it that big-city touch when temperatures are mild enough for you to enjoy sitting out. This is also a great place to get away from it all with the relaxing River Aar, the Jura Mountains with the Weissenstein, which has several hundred miles of hiking paths.

My preferred hotel chain is Marriott. I have stayed Residence Inns, which are prefect for longer stays with all the comforts of home; Spring Hill Suites, which I have found nice for longer stays as the have up to 25% more room than comparably priced rooms; Towne Place Suites, again when I want more room or am on a longer stay; Courtyard by Marriott, which has everything the business traveler needs, as well as families; Courtyard, Fairfield Inn, which I find spacious, comfortable and affordable. Another great idea is to stay at one of the JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts where you can enjoy a new dimension for your vacation or holiday. and Marriott Hotels and Resorts and have found them all to be of consistent quality and service. I have also stayed at some of their Vacation Club properties and have enjoyed each visit. AAA members can get discount rates at Marriott, as can Seniors.
