Jorg was very friendly, the room was nice, and the bakery in front made it even better! And, as I enjoy staying in small hotels such as this, and not in the super modern structures that remind you of a Hilton back in the States, it was perfect for me. The hotel was recommended to me by someone who I met on the www and has since become a good friend, Juergen. He owns the electronics store right next to the bakery. Stop in and say "Hi" and tell him "Jim sent me." He might even buy you a drink! And, if you need any electronics while you are there, he is the man to see! I never travel in Germany without it. One of the things I like best about it are the interesting side trips and city walks that are easy to follow and take you into some of the less familiar areas. There are also good listings for accommodations and dining to meet every pocketbook. Smack in the middle of Europe, Germany's got the Bavarian Alps, windswept North Sea islands, the Black Forest and the castle-dotted Rhine. And there's Berlin, a city where you could easily spend all your vacation and not see a tenth of what it has to offer. Germany has history aplenty, an enormous variety of museums, cosmopolitan sophistication and rural beauty, camping, beer gardens, and music of all kinds. In short, Germany is the kind of place where a guidebook makes all the difference. Lonely Planet Germany could make that difference!
Let's Go Germany is a great guidebook for the younger set. Comprehensive, budget-minded coverage for the independent traveler, from Black Forest castles to Berlin nightlife. DANCE the night away in Berlin's hottest techno club and sip a thirst-quenching caipirinha for $10. TREK through Saxony's towering peaks and sleep in a medieval fortress for $15. MARVEL at the view from atop Cologne's 600-year-old cathedral for $2. If you are a college student traveling in Germany, this is the book for you! Schau ins Land is a monthly German audio magazine, published by Champs-Elysees, for the intermediate to advanced speaker and designed to take their speaking and listening comprehension to the next level. Every issue takes the form of an hour long radio broadcast featuring interviews with German celebrities as well as up to date news from the worlds of art, business, literature, politics etc. Previous guests on the programs include Boris Becker, Oskar Lafontaine and Helmut Kohl. Each magazine comes with a complete transcript and a comprehensive glossary together with optional linguistic exercises. Available on both CD and cassette. I know from experience that it is always better to travel in a foreign country when you can at least speak a little of the language. |
