The standards for German lodging, from the small country inns to the large luxury hotels, are high. And, many of them have prices to match, though not disproportionately with other similar countries in Europe. I have found the staff friendly and the service good and the quality of the rooms very good with almost all of the rooms clean and comfortable. You will find everything from luxury sports to campgrounds and just about everything between.

Along with regular hotels you will find country inns (called Gasthofe or Gasthauser) that have rooms and also, for most of the anyway, serve food; guest houses (Fremdenheime), and places where you can just find a simple room, normally in private homes. These are called Fremdenzimmers. Although most hotels serve food, those listed as Garni provide breakfast only.

You will find many American hotels chains including Hilton, Holiday Inn, Marriott, Radison, Ramada, and Sheraton, just to name a few. Lists of German hotels are available from the German National Tourist Office and all regional and local tourist offices.

Hotel Accent-Severin - I stayed here the last time I was in Koln and enjoyed the stay. Jorg was very friendly, the room was nice, and the bakery in front made it even better! "The campsite in Rodenkirchen is located on the west bank of the Rhine River, and is reported to be the oldest in Germany.  Right out our window there were river barges, passenger boats, fishermen, speed boats, planes landing at the Bonn airport, and people enjoying the evening.  On the walk along the Rhine River, one lady was pulling a child's four-wheeled wagon especially fitted for a dog that had lost the use of its legs.  The lady said the dog looked forward to the ride each day."
