Getting to the Czech Republic

Your travel source with a personal touch!

For visitors outside of Europe, air is probably the most popular way to arrive in the Czech Republic.  Within Europe you may arrive by air, rail, and highway.  Americans, Canadians, British citizens, and Australians are required to have a valid passport. In addition, Australians are required to have a visa.

Arriving & Departing:
There are nonstop flights from the U.S. to Prague's airport in Ruzyne˙ with

The average travel time between New York and Prague on a non-stop flight is 8 hours. Airlines with regular service between the US and Prague (connecting through European gateways) include British Airways, Finnair, KLM - Royal Dutch Airlines,  Lufthansa, Swissair, and Air New Zealand/British Midland, which is convenient especially if you fly in from the West coast. Most of these airlines have US code-sharing partners; if you prefer a specific airline, contact your travel agent for details or visit the Getting Away Airlines Page to information on flights and prices. A shuttle bus to the city center is about $3.  Taxi fare is about $15 and it would be wise to arrange the fare first.

By Rail
Czech Railways connect with other European rail services.
Most long-distance trains have dining cars and there are overnight trains between main centers with sleeping cars. You might have to pay a small supplement of EuroCity and InterCity trains.  Another database of train schedules both within and outside the Czech Republic can be searched from Deutsche Bahn's home page.  And, for info on booking international train connections, go to Rail Europe; they also sell the Czech Flexipass and the European East Pass.
