As for me, when I travel in Britain I look for the small, older hotels that seem to have more character than the newer, high-rise hotels that are similar to those we see in America. After all, I am in a foreign country and I want things to be "different." I want to experience new and interesting things � even with my choice of accommodations. I also look for more "alternative types of lodging" such as bed and breakfast locations or small inns. On this page you will be able to find a lot of good information on accommodations in Great Britain. Most people who visit Great Britain stay in hotels. Obviously it would be impossible for me to list every hotel in Great Britain. However, you can find a lot of good information here. My preferred hotel chain is Marriott. I have stayed Residence Inns, which are prefect for longer stays with all the comforts of home; Spring Hill Suites, which I have found nice for longer stays as the have up to 25% more room than comparably priced rooms; Towne Place Suites, again when I want more room or am on a longer stay; Courtyard by Marriott, which has everything the business traveler needs, as well as families; Courtyard, Fairfield Inn, which I find spacious, comfortable and affordable. Another great idea is to stay at one of the JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts where you can enjoy a new dimension for your vacation or holiday. and Marriott Hotels and Resorts and have found them all to be of consistent quality and service. I have also stayed at some of their Vacation Club properties and have enjoyed each visit. AAA members can get discount rates at Marriott, as can Seniors. Most Americans will find the accommodation in Great Britain here a little less than you might expect in the United States. Many of the hotels are old and many of the rooms are small. Bed and Breakfast Information in Great Britain
Bed and Breakfast seems to be a national tradition in Britain. There seem to be more here than anywhere else in the world. Although most are in family homes, not all of them are in houses. Many are just small hotels. Also, few of them (the ones in the homes) have private bathrooms. Many B&Bs are actually guest houses. They are a little more expensive, but very nice. One of the best thing about staying in a bed and breakfast is that they normally give you a nice insight to the way the British live.

What about staying in a castle while you are in Great Britain?
Historic Buildings and Castles...You can find many historic building and castles in which to stay in Britain. This can be an interesting, and sometimes entertaining way to spend the night. Castles of Britain Great Site! I get a lot of questions about spending the night in a castle somewhere in Great Britain. Here is a very good site that will not only give you some suggestions on a castle you can call "home" for a night or two, but a lot of other very good information on castles in Great Britain. Hostel Information for Great Britain
There must be well over 300 youth hostels throughout Britain. They range from very basic accommodations to almost luxurious. Some even have private rooms for families. And, although they are listed as "youth" hostels, there really is not any age discrimination. Almost anyone of any age is welcome in most. However, be warned that they do cater to the youth crowd and if this would be bothersome to you, stay somewhere else. Copthorne London - Gatwick This hotel has been recommended by one of my readers, Rick from St. Louis, as one of his favorites. Rick states, "The Copthorne Hotel - Gatwick was one of the neatest hotels I've seen anywhere. It is very quaint and reminds you of being out in the country. But, a good sized first-rate hotel. Cottages...It can also be fun to spend the night, or several nights, in a little cottage � perhaps in the Cotswolds. Cottages, along with furnished apartments, houses, and even trailers are available in all area of the country. They vary from brand-new buildings to quaint, old country cottages and farmhouses. University Housing...In many of the larger cities, and even the smaller "college towns," you can sometimes stay in the residence halls of universities and colleges. The facilities are often very compact, single sleeping units that can be rented for an overnight. However, they normally only have vacancies when schools are out of term.
