I love the city of Edinburgh. In fact, it is one of my favorite large European city. I especially enjoy the easy transition from the New Town to the Old Town. Jim

The Bonham is located close to Edinburgh's West End and its famous sites,
are three beautifully converted town houses; they are The Bonham, a relaxing
boutique-style hotel that could be anywhere but a city centre. It has been
designed for tomorrow; luxurious without being fussy, theatrical with every
facility for today's business and leisure traveler. The spacious guest rooms and
suites enjoy an elegance and opulent simplicity made the more dramatic by
contemporary furniture and Scottish paintings in rich, bold colors. Crisp lines
are broken by luscious fabrics and the windows keep you in touch with the older
beauty of Edinburgh, the Village of Dean and the Firth of Forth. The Bonham is
one of the first hotels to offer cutting-edge technology - every guest room is a
virtual office and entertainment centre. eTV, as it is known, provides a range
of on-line facilities via the television and infra red keyboard including
e-mail, the Internet and Microsoft Office. DVD video, audio CD and video games
are also on hand. The popular oak-paneled Restaurant at The Bonham is well-known
for its creative yet simple contemporary European-influenced dishes -
distinctive flavors and exciting combinations. The Bonham, with its impeccable
standards and individuality, belongs firmly in the new millennium.

Channings Walk through the quiet cobbled streets of Edinburgh city centre, just a small distance from the Castle, and you will find a row of five beautifully maintained Edwardian town houses. Together, they make up Channings, a boutique-style hotel with a cozy, traditional club-like atmosphere. The style of Channings has a feeling of classic care, from the peaceful, fire-lit lounges to any of the 46 luxurious guest rooms; several of which offer wonderful panoramic views over the Firth of Forth to the hills of Fife. The traditional, richly colored Restaurant with Edwardian features, complements the Conservatory, which is simple and uncluttered with its pale wooden floors and subtle directional down lights offering a light and airy feel. The Restaurant prides itself on honest food and excellent, personable service. After dinner, the Wine Bar provides a relaxed environment and welcomes you with an interesting range of malt whiskies. In the warmer months, take your lunch into the sun-lit terraced garden. The quiet, classical feel of the hotel makes it the ideal venue for private or corporate dinners or small meetings. Any such gathering can be held in the oak-paneled Library, the Kingsleigh Suite or, indeed, the Conservatory. Dalhousie Castle & Spa
- The
Ramsays of Dalhousie laid the foundations of their family seat over 700
years ago and its ancient stones have witnessed a fascinating procession of
historical events and famous guests from Edward I and Oliver Cromwell to
Queen Victoria and Sir Walter Scott. However, the new millennium has
probably heralded the most revolutionary development in the castle's long
and distinguished history with the arrival of the Aqueous Spa. A short drive
south of Edinburgh, the castle is set in its own estate of forest and
parkland. Ten of its 29 sumptuously furnished and thoughtfully-equipped
bedrooms are historically themed, for example the Sir William Wallace Room,
and there are a further five rooms in the century-old Lodge a two-minute
walk away overlooking the South Esk River. The "Aqueous" hydrotherapy spa is
the first of its kind in Scotland offering invigorating and rejuvenating
hydro facilities combined with relaxing treatments to reduce stress and
promote a healthy body and mind. Spa packages or individual treatments are
available. Adjacent to the spa, the Orangery dining room offers a
Scottish-Mediterranean menu with light and healthy options as a
counter-balance to the traditional Scottish-French cuisine served in the
more formal vaulted Dungeon Restaurant.

| The Howard - Edinburgh's New Town is a
neo-classical masterpiece commissioned in the 1820's and preserved today as
Britain's largest classified monument. It is in this area of Georgian
elegance that you will find The Howard looking much as it did when it was
first built. The Howard is a gem among small hotels. Beautifully decorated
with paintings and antique furniture, each of the rooms in this elegant
Georgian terrace is an oasis of gracious calm. The paneled breakfast room,
deep roll-top baths and original Bakelite telephones evoke a quality of
service and comfort that is redolent of a bygone age. Following a day spent
exploring Edinburgh's architectural treasures, shops and galleries, guests
are greeted with tea and home-made shortbread, reinforcing the feeling that
you are a private rather than a paying guest. The personal service offered and the attention to detail, is enhanced by the provision of a Butler, on duty 24 hours a day, to attend to guests' every need. |

Melvin House Hotel - In 1766,
22-year-old James Craig won a public competition to design a New Town for
Edinburgh which would expand the city beyond the confines of the rocky
outcrop dominated by Edinburgh Castle. Craig's neo-Classical plan extended
north of Princes Street, and by the late-19th century the final piece of the
New Town development, the West End, neared completion. It was here, in 1883,
that John Ritchie Findlay, legendary owner, of Scotland's national
newspaper, 'The Scotsman', built himself a handsome terraced house, which
has now been transformed into a first class hotel. Renowned Architect,
Sidney Mitchell was instructed to 'cut no corners' in the construction of
his elegant and spacious home. Extensively restored, Melvin House remains full of grand Victorian character, intricate moldings, dark wood paneling and imposing marble fireplaces in the public rooms. The generously sized bedrooms, which can provide exceptional value-for-money family accommodation, boast views over the city to the castle or the ancient kingdom of Fife. A short walk from the Princes Street shops and major attractions such as the National Gallery of Scotland, Melvin House's location is hard to beat and business travelers are well-placed for the city's financial and business communities as well as the hotel's own stately conference rooms. |

Prestonfield House is one of Scotland's
finest historic mansions. Its location, five minutes from Princes Street,
makes it ideal for visiting Edinburgh. The house and the unique early 19th
century Round Stables are surrounded by a golf course and set in 13 acres of
parkland and gardens which are designated as a landscape of outstanding
historical and scenic beauty. Prestonfield was built in 1687 for Sir James
Dick, Lord Provost of Edinburgh. The Tapestry, Leather and Italian Rooms
contain their distinctive late 17th and early 18th century decorative
schemes and much of the family collection of paintings and furniture remain
in their original settings. Great care has been taken to ensure that the
introduction of modern facilities does not conflict with the historic fabric
nor the character of this important building. Continuing the tradition of
'kindness on kindness, cheerful meals and balmy rest' that Benjamin Franklin
found in 1759, Prestonfield has a high quality ? la carte restaurant in the
Old Dining Room. Few hotels in any capital city anywhere in the world match Prestonfield for its comfort as a country house hotel, combined with its nearness to the city centre. There is ample parking within the grounds, and shops, amenities and historic sites of Edinburgh are nearby. |
