Getting
To Norway
If you are traveling within Scandinavia or Europe, it is easy to get to
Norway from anywhere by air, rail, ship or car. SAS, Braathens, Wideroe are
joined by all major European airlines in connecting Oslo and other cities with
all European capitals and major cities on a daily basis. Approx. flying times
to Oslo are as follows:
Amsterdam...1 hr./35 min.
Brussels...1 hour and 30 minutes.
Frankfurt...1 hour and 30 minutes.
London...2 hours.
Madrid...3 hours.
Munich...1 hour and 30 minutes.
Paris...1 hour and 45 minutes.

SAS, Scandinavian Airlines
System, Norway's flag carrier, operates
from the U.S. to Norway. Passengers departing from any of
SAS's U.S. gateways connect via Copenhagen for destinations in Norway, or they
may fly nonstop from Newark International Airport on the daily flight to Oslo. Both
Copenhagen and Oslo airports provide connections to Bergen, Stavanger,
Trondheim and other cities. SAS serves the NY metropolitan area with daily flights to each of the 3
Scandinavian capitals from Newark. SAS has a code-sharing agreement with
United Airlines, giving passengers convenient connections with most major U.S.
cities. The flying time from Newark to Oslo is approx. 7hrs 50min.
There are also daily flights from Chicago to Copenhagen and Stockholm, with quick
connections to Oslo and other Norwegian cities. The flying time is approx. 8
hrs 20 min. to Copenhagen and Stockholm and roughly 1 hour to Oslo. From
Seattle, which also has daily flights to Copenhagen, the flying time is 9hrs 50min. to
Copenhagen and linked conveniently with flights to Norway.
Passengers traveling on SAS across the Atlantic have a choice of tourist
class, EuroClass (Business Class) or EuroSleeper service. They also enjoy
mileage benefits with United Airlines, or with SAS's own EuroBonus mileage
program.

Finnair offers eight nonstop flights
weekly between Helsinki and New York with connections to Oslo. Three weekly
nonstop service from San Francisco and two weekly from Toronto during peak
season.

Icelandair flies year-round to Oslo
from its hub in Keflavik, Iceland. There are five gateways in North America,
including one in Canada: Halifax, Nova Scotia; and five in the U.S.: Boston,
New York (JFK), Baltimore-Washington (BWI), and Orlando. All flights connect
to major U.S. and Canadian carriers for transport to/from other destinations
throughout North America. A special agreement with Braathens SAFE also offers
domestic transportation in Norway at reduced rates. Icelandair offers Economy
Class and SAGA Business Class service.

By Rail
An extensive rail network links Norway to other Scandinavian countries and the
rest of Europe. From Stockholm and Copenhagen, there are daily trains to Oslo.
From the Continent, express trains serve Copenhagen where inter- Scandinavian
trains continue to Oslo, offering connections to other cities in Norway. Most
rail trips from the Continent are overnight, and you will find sleeper coaches
on all of them.

Eurailpass, Flexipass & Eurail Youth Pass
All are accepted for passage on the national railways of 17
European countries, including Norway. Eurailpass is good for unlimited
first-class travel for specific periods of time. The Eurail Youth Pass, for
travelers under age 26, is valid for unlimited second-class travel for specific
periods of time. Eurail Flexipasses offers the same privileges as the Eurailpass
and Youth Flexipasses are designed for travelers under 26 years of age, both
passes are valid for any 10 or 15 days within a two-month period. Children under
4 travel free, and children under 12 travel for half-fare.

Scanrail Pass
A range of flexible rail passes offering a number of
travel days, which can be used consecutively or non-consecutively in Norway,
Denmark, Sweden and Finland. The Youth pass is available for people 26 or
younger. The Senior pass is available for person 60 and older. Proof of
age is required. Children under 12 pay half adult fare.

Drive Pass
This pass includes a combination of five days of
unlimited travel within Scandinavia, and a three-day rental car. Additional days
of car rental can be purchased. Prices start at $242 based on a second-class
rail. Price is per person, and includes unlimited mileage, third party liability
insurance and taxes.
Mini-Prices
You can save money with mini price-tickets that can be
purchased at a special one way point-to-point price; E.g. Oslo to Bergen,
Trondheim, or Stavanger for $42-$85. No stop-over allowed. Tickets
are sold at all railway stations in Norway, but must be purchased at least 5
days in advance. No refund of tickets later than 5 days before departure
Customer Card
Another good way to
save. The holder of the card is entitled to a 50% reduction of the
normal 2nd class fare on certain departures known as "green
departures." 20% is offered on any other departure. The cost of the card is
$55. The card is valid for up to one year of purchase and is sold at all railway
stations in Norway.
Senior Citizen Discounts
Folks over 67 years of age are entitled to 50% off the price
of a 1st- or 2nd- class ticket on any train. Please note: Senior citizen
tickets, which are sold at all rail stations in Norway, cannot be booked or
purchased outside Norway.
Eurail Drive
You can enjoy 4 days of unlimited 1st class rail
travel plus a 3-day car rental. Option to purchase up to 5 additional rail
and/or car days. Prices start at $330. Prices are per person: include unlimited
mileage, basic insurance, taxes, and free drop-off in the country of rental.

Arriving on the Sea
Scheduled ship services operate between Scandinavia/Europe
and Norway. Some of the ships are also car ferries. All are modern comfortable
cruise liners with cabins and restaurants onboard for overnight journeys.

An excellent bus system links towns and villages
throughout the country. For anyone who wants to get off the beaten path, a
pay-as-you-go, open-ended bus trip is a wonderful way to see Norway.
Prices are competitive. Children under 4 travel free, and ages
4-16 receive a 50% discount. Some companies offer additional discounts when
traveling in a groups of 2 or more people. Senior citizens 67 years and older

Norway Bus Pass
Year-round bus pass, which offers 7 days or 14 days consecutive travel on
NOR-WAY Bussexpress's national routes, at a price of $176 and $282. Children 0-4
years of age travel free, 4-16 years of age pay 75% of the adult price.

By Car
The Norwegian highway and road network covers some 56,430 miles. Cars are driven
on the right-hand side of the road in Norway, just as they are in the U.S. and
Canada. Many American and European car rental companies have offices at airports
and in major cities. Your travel agents can also reserve a car that will be
waiting on arrival in Norway. Airlines that fly to Norway also offer rental car
services. Please note that many transatlantic carriers offer very good deals on
fly-drive packages. Special prices may be available during the summer and
weekends year-round.
