Amalfi
The drive along the Amalfi Coast is one of the most spectacular in all the
world. If you visit Italy, you must visit Amalfi and the Amalfi Coastal area.

Anacapri
When Tiberius was emperor he spent 11 years on the island of
Capri and built 12 elaborate villas. Villa San Michele, in
Anacapri, was built by the Swedish doctor and writer Axel Munthe
in the late 19th century on the site of one of these villas.
It's a beautiful location with breath taking views of the sea
and cliffs from the garden. Alex later wrote a book that The
Story of San Michele that became quite famous. He also
helped create a sanctuary for migrating birds.
The villa, now a museum, is furnished with traditional local
and Swedish furnishings. The extensive art collections acquired
by Alex range from antiquity to 20th century and include objects
in marble, stone, mosaic, terracotta, wood, metal, ceramics and
textiles.
Bits of the Roman villa are incorporated into the atrium and
garden. There's a Roman well, statues, and a small building that
houses remains of Roman frescoes. The garden is beautiful and
has fantastic cliff edge view spots.
The villa is reached by a pleasant walk along a shopping
street off Piazza Vittoria in Anacapri.

Bannio Anzino
La Residenza dello Scoiattolo Bed &
Breakfast
The La Residenza dello Scoiattolo is located in a valley that is part of Val d'Ossola, Northern Italy
in the Alps and Monte Rosa. Not many people know this
beautiful and still untouched place. They have nice and cozy accommodations for
those who would like to get away from it all. The bed and breakfast is near the mountains and the
woods. Guests can have a whole floor (1st floor) for them with independent
entrance 2 wide terraces 2 rooms (to accommodate up to 5 people) 1 small
bathroom for guests only and another one downstairs (to be shared with us). They
state, "It
is our policy to accept 1 group of guests each time (so if they are just 2
people - we don't take other guests until they leave)." Rates are competitive and
range from 55 euro for 2 people up to 120 for 5 people. A rich breakfast is
always included. The house interior is all covered by wood and the atmosphere is

Bolsena

The hotel is located on the western side of the Volsini mountains, against
the background of the Lake of Bolsena. It is surrounded by woods and a lush
vegetation. Once a feud owned by princes Spada and del Drago, the area
enjoys a unique scenario, with the ancient town and castle of Bolsena below,
and villages scattered along the banks of the lake at a distance. Here you
can spend your holidays under the banner of nature, history and good food.
Cooking offers local and regional dishes, as well as skillfully prepared
international recipes. At the Holiday Farm, many produce are grown by
ecological techniques, including chestnuts, honey, kiwi-fruits, oil and
wine. Comfortable rooms overlook the lake and are furnished with ancient

Capri
| I love the island of Capri. Take the funicular from the
dock area up to the village, head for the restaurant at your right as you get
off of the funicular and enjoy lunch as you overlook the beautiful blue waters
of the Mediterranean. Then, walk the interesting streets for some shopping before
heading back down to the docks to catch a boat for a visit to the Blue
Grotto.
Capri is an
enchanting and picturesque island made of limestone rock. A favorite with
Roman emperors, the rich and famous, artists, and writers, it's still one of
the Mediterranean's must-see places. Capri can easily be visited as a day
trip from Naples or the Amalfi Coast but to really savor the atmosphere,
plan on spending the night.
Capri's top
sights include the famous Blue Grotto and the towns of Capri and Anacapri.

Via Krupp was designed by industrialist Krupp and built in 1902
to connect the sea to Capri. The beautiful road winds down the
hill from the Augustus Gardens outside the town of Capri to
Marina Piccola on the sea. It's currently closed to the public.
The Augustus Gardens, Giardini Augusto, are about a 15
minute walk from Piazza Umberto I, Capri's main square. The path
to the gardens passes above the Certosa di San Giacomo, a
14th century convent that now houses a museum and library.
Concerts are sometimes held at the certosa. The walkway also
passes the laboratory of the perfumes of Capri.
The gardens, commissioned by Krupp in the 1930s, are a
display of island flowers planted on terraces. There's a large
panoramic terrace above the gardens offering spectacular views
of the certosa, the Faraglioni rocks, Monte Tuoro, the bay of
Marina Piccola and Monte Solaro.

Florence
Florence, in the region of Tuscany, is the main city after
which the province is named and one of my favorites in Italy. It rises on
the banks of the Arno in a vast plain surrounded by the Careggi, Fiesole,
Settignano, Arcetri and Bellosguardo hills. The river divides the city
into two parts: to the north the areas of Santa Maria Novella, San Giovanni and
Santa Croce; to the south the "Diladdarno," the area of Santo Spirito.
The local economy is based on tourism, industry (textiles and clothes,
metalwork, optics, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, glass and ceramics) and on
Florentine handicrafts (embroidery, jewellry, products made from straw).
The climate is temperate but rather variable, with humid and breezy winters
characterized by periods of intense cold, and hot and muggy summers.

I recently stayed at the Hotel Casci
and enjoyed my stay very much. I had already made reservations over the
internet and found the folks at the hotel to be very friendly and helpful both
while making the arrangements and reservations, and after I arrived at the
hotel. And, with the exception of the winter months, you should not arrive
in the city without a reservation. However, if you arrive in Florence
without a reservation, stop by the Consorzio ITA office at Stazione
Centrale (055/212245) and they will try and help you find a room.
