Ever since I was a student in grade school, I wanted to visit Rome. I read as much as I could about the city and the history of the Romans. I even took Latin in school when everyone else seemed to be taking French or Spanish. Finally, about 25 years later, I was able to see this great city. And, knowing a lot about the history, and many of the 'superstitions' of the city, I threw my coin into the 'fountain' in the hop of returning again. And, I did - again and again and again. Each time I fell more in love with the city, and soon after returning would begin planning my next visit.
If you look carefully at
the shirt I am wearing in the photo at the right, you can get a feel for
just how long ago my first visit was. This city is filled with very
interesting things to see and do, attractions, points of interest, and
history. This page will give you just a bit of what there is to do here.
If you have other suggestions (and pictures), be sure to send them to me
and perhaps I can add them to Getting Away. To see some of the
attractions and things to see and do in Rome, just follow the links

For an excellent guide book, order a copy of Fodor's Citypack Rome. It is one of the best. I also enjoy Exploring Rome, which is also by Fodor. One of the more interesting ways to see Rome is on foot. Walking through Rome can be a very enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. In "City Secrets Rome," which is edited by Robert Kahn, you will find all of those sometimes out-of-the-way places you would never have thought to see.
