Athens
I normally look for more inexpensive locations when I travel so any recommendations I might have would tend to be on the less expensive side, but still nice.

My preferred hotel chain is Marriott. I have stayed Residence Inns, which are prefect for longer stays with all the comforts of home; Spring Hill Suites, which I have found nice for longer stays as the have up to 25% more room than comparably priced rooms; Towne Place Suites, again when I want more room or am on a longer stay; Courtyard by Marriott, which has everything the business traveler needs, as well as families; Courtyard, Fairfield Inn, which I find spacious, comfortable and affordable. Another great idea is to stay at one of the JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts where you can enjoy a new dimension for your vacation or holiday. and Marriott Hotels and Resorts and have found them all to be of consistent quality and service. I have also stayed at some of their Vacation Club properties and have enjoyed each visit. AAA members can get discount rates at Marriott, as can Seniors. As for locations with a view, here are two that you might like to try and find out a little more about. The Athenian Inn (22 Haritos St. Kolonaki, 106 75 Athens, 01/723-8097) is located about three blocks from Kolonaki Square. The accommodations are clean and the staff quite friendly. Many of the balconies in the hotel look out on Lykavitos Hill. Rates include breakfast you can enjoy in the nice lounge. The Hotel Acropolis View (10 Webster St. Filopapou, 117 42 Athens, 01/921-7303 Hotel Acropolis View ) is a little larger hotel that is located at the base of Filopapou Hill in a nice quiet neighborhood. The rooms are small, but most have modern amenities and private bathrooms. Many of the rooms have been recently renovated. Ask for a room in the front if you want a view. And, the view from the rooftop is great.

These would be my first two choices. Other locations would include the Adams Hotel (Thalou and Herefondos Streets, 105 58 Athens, 01/322-5381 Adams Hotel) which is an inexpensive location with about 15 rooms (not all have baths) with room 303 being quite nice with a large terrace. Several of the rooms have a pretty good view of the Acropolis. Ask! The Bryon Hotel has rooms with a view of the Acropolis also. However, they are front rooms on the street and tend to be rather noisy. The Hotel Adonis (3 Kodrou Street, 105 58 Athens, 01/324-9737) has a lovely rooftop garden that overlooks the Acropolis and Lykavitos Hill.

Near Syntagma Square
The Hotel Hermes (19 Apollonos Street, 105 57 Athens, 01/323-5514) is a nice little hotel conveniently located near Plaka with a nice roof garden that give you a fine view of the Acropolis. This is a nice place for lunch or dinner also. Rates include a buffet breakfast with ham, cheese and boiled eggs. Nice location and nice price! Another good value is the Hotel Achilleas (21 Lekka Street, 105 62 Athens, 01/323-3197 Achilleas Hotel ) which is located on a quiet street near the square. It was renovated a few years ago and the rooms are quite nice. Several have balconies.
