Americans traveling to Canada:

You must carry Photo ID or a Passport to prove citizenship, and preferable both - Passports will be required starting January 1, 2008, however a new “passport card” will become available later this year for land border crossings - The cost to obtain one will also be significantly reduced - details available at the COTA website
Children can use school ID or a birth certificate
Be prepared to be questioned on past court appearances, especially DUI's
There are fruit, vegetable and alcohol restrictions
No firearms allowed

Returning to US w/Purchases/Goods/Gifts:
Individuals returning to US in a 30-day period may bring $800/person of approved items without paying duty.
You may be eligble to reclaim part or all of the GST paid on purchases made in Canada. See "Information for Visitors to Canada" for general info.

Minors traveling with people who are not their parents MUST have the following:
·written authorization from parents
·parent's contact phone numbers
·ID for the children
·Letter of Joint Custody
·Registered or certified copy of birth certificate
