Getting There by Air
Although Freeport International Airport is the main gateway into The Bahamas, smaller flights frequently arrive through Nassau International Airport. Freeport hosts incoming and outgoing flights from American Eagle, Bahamasair, Continental, Delta, Gulfstream, Laker Airways, Major's Air, TWA, and Western Air, among others. Direct and connecting flights are available year round. For those coming from North America, the best bet is to travel through Miami. Resorts and hotels usually make arrangements for guest transportation to and from the airport. Otherwise, taxis are the best option since bus service is difficult to find.

Easy access to The Bahamas is one reason for its long-standing popularity as a winter holiday destination. Only a few miles from the south Florida coast, in fact closer than Caribbean destinations, the islands can be reached quickly either by air or by sea.

Plenty of large airlines service The Bahamas, as well as several charter airlines. Frequent flights are available to Nassau, Freeport, and the Out Islands. Although there are no direct flights from Europe to The Bahamas, a quick stopover in Miami is easy and perfectly viable.

Getting There by Boat

Arriving by private boat
If you wish to visit The Islands Of The Bahamas by boat, your first  port of call should be a recognized Port of Entry.  However, should you arrive at a marina, you should immediately  clear your boat by contacting Bahamas Customs and Immigration departments and arrange to have officers visit your vessel at the marina. The folks at the marina office will help you accomplish this.  The best bet is to, before arriving at the harbor or marina, the Harbour Control or Marina Office should be contacted by radio (VHF Channel 16) and pre-arrival information should be exchanged.  This will include the vessel's name, registration number and last port of call.  Conversely, on leaving the harbor/marina, pre-departure information should be provided.
