General Information On St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Although the waters are wonderful here, and the beaches covered in an interesting black sand, most visitors to St. Vincent and the Grenadines don't come for the beaches, but come for the sailing. The waters are probably the best in the Caribbean for sailing and yachting.

The island of St. Vincent is gorgeous and lush, full of natural Caribbean greenery and beautiful scenery. For more information on the Grenadines, check out the official SVG Tourism website or the CIA World Factbook for SVG.

The People of St. Vincent and the Grenadines
African cultural influences are abundant here as most of the island's population is descended from African slaves. The British influence here can be seen in their British manners and sensibilities, including the way the islanders treat their guests with politeness and a welcoming attitude is hard to find anywhere in the world. In addition to the many British characteristics, look for some French and Indian influences as well.

Passports, Visas and Entry Information
All visitors, including those from the Caribbean, should have a passport and a return or ongoing ticket. An original birth certificate (with raised seal) and a government-issued photo ID are sometimes accepted, but a passport is always recommended. Visitors from the United States need to be aware of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004*.

*The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 requires that by January 1, 2008, travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States. This includes United States citizens! In order to facilitate the implementation of this requirement, the Administration is proposing to complete it in phases following a proposed timeline, which will be published in the Federal Register in the near future. For additional information, go to http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html.

Health and Safety
Bottled water is best for all visitors on St. Vincent and the Grenadines, even in your hotel and nice restaurants. The local water can cause upset stomachs and really mess up your vacatin or holiday. Kingstown General Hospital is the only major hospital on the islands.

The islands are very safe, even in the capital city of Kingstown that has a very low crime rate. Despite this, don't forget to follow basic safety precautions.

Climate And Weather

The Grenadines experience cooler weather than many Caribbean islands. This is primarily due to trade winds, Temperatures range from 76 to 82 in January and from 80 to 86 in July. The rainy season runs from May to November, when the islands get most of their annual 70 inches of precipitation.

Geography
The over 30 islands that make up St. Vincent and the Grenadines are scattered between St. Lucia and Grenada. St. Vincent and the Grenadines is a part of the British Windward Islands. St. Vincent is the largest of these islands with the other major islands including: Young Island, Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Mayreau, Union Island, Palm Island, and Petit St. Vincent. Nearly a quarter of the country's population lives in the capital city of Kingstown on St. Vincent.

Currency
The official currency of St. Vincent and the Grenadines is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (EC$). The U.S. dollar is widely accepted, but you may still receive change in EC$. The exchange rate is permanently fixed at about EC$2.70 to each US$1 (EC$1 = US$0.37).

Currency Exchange - Get your currency needs managed in advance! Many airports, railroad stations, bus depots, and other points of entry have no currency exchange. When currency exchange is available in airports, lines can be long and rates can be "sky high". These long waits and usurious fees can be a nightmare.  Order in advance from All Foreign Currency right online. It's fast, easy, and you save time and money! The can also provide you with Travelers' checks, bank drafts, and transfers. U.S. dollars are not accepted everywhere and rates can be atrocious!

Electricity
The electrical system here is 220-volt meaning that visitors from the United States will need adapters.

Getting To and Around St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Most visitors to St. Vincent and the Grenadines will arrive via air at St. Vincent's E.T. Joshua Airport. Direct flights from the U.S. and Canada are seldom available, but flights connect through other major Caribbean airports. Small planes are the preferred way to travel among the islands, but you can also island hop via boat. Airports on the Grenadines include Port Elizabeth Bequia Airport, Canouan Island Airport, Mustique Airport, Palm Island, and Union Island Airport. Some travelers hire their own yacht to reach their final destination or travel aboard a mail, cargo, or passenger boat.
